  • I prefer the way this forum is run to many other Catholic forums, but there is hardly any interaction. If someone replies to a comment at all it often takes a day or more. Any ideas on how to make this place more lively like Fisheaters? I come to forums to learn, but also to interact with people.

  • I wouldn't even know where to begin. Isn't that the job of the owner?

  • CathInfo gets a lot of search engine traffic, but it should increase drastically as the weeks progress. Let's just say I'm a programmer and I do Internet stuff for a living.

I just fixed a few things that should bring even more traffic to CathInfo.

I only know so many people (not many!) so, like any forum, I depend on the word of mouth of the various members to spread the word.

CathInfo doesn't have an advertising budget since it doesn't bring in any money. So how else would I spread the word, besides word of mouth?

  • I like the pace around here. It's easier to "know" who everyone is and if I don't make it around here for a day or so, I'm not overwhelmingly behind in keeping up with posts.

We could stand a few more people with time enough to answer questions, but I also think it's a bad sign when you ask a somewhat difficult question and immediately a dozen people have an answer for you. There just aren't that many people who really can provide a solid, educated answer about matters related to the Faith, so most of those dozen would just be people who think they know more than they really do.

If you're patient enough to wait for an answer here, you'll probably get a pretty solid one.

  • More personal interaction here would be nice. I think we have plenty of people for it, but just don't know how to foster those conversations.

I know there are others around here with young families, for example, but it sure seems like a bunch of single people because many never talk about their actual lives.

  • Fair enough, Chant! The problem is that I don't know many people either, and the ones I do know aren't traditional Catholics. There are about 20 regular posters over on Fisheaters that should really be posting on this forum. Some of them are people like gerald, columba, devotedknuckles, alaric, hmis, reidiation, cruxfidelis, marisa, voxpopulisuxx, rbjmartin, smilebugmg, ggreg, and anamchara. They really are more suited to this forum than they are to Fisheaters.  Maybe if we got all those people to come here at the same time it would create the spark that this forum needs.

I think it's because most of the people here are not happy to communicate using reference points derived from secular culture, as is the case at Fisheaters. So they just go mute. I notice that h0Ɩ0cαųst debate is allowed on this forum and ignusardens, and both have very little traffic. That can't be a coincidence. People can't take too much reality.

  • or maybe (like me) some of us just don't have the time to research the disputes enough to give an answer other than, "hm, interesting theory."

I really like the set up b/c I really can't spend much time on the internet everyday b/c of my kids and when I do get on there it seems there are at least 10-20 new posts.  To me it would seem irresponsible to use more of my time towards something that I consider enjoyable (albeit intellectual and informative) recreation.

And with the fewer members, as someone else pointed out, I get more of a feel for certain people even though I don't know them personally, and I really like that.  (LOL like Roscoe, who doesn't have a feel for Roscoe by now?) If there were a ton of users on here I don't think it would be that way.
