  • Do people do anything special to mark the day and end of the Christmas season, other than going to mass?

  • Christmas doesn't end until Candlemas on February 2.

However, our family celebrates Three Kings Day.  On 12th Night, we have a party with the kids, a great feast, and we exchange gifts in honor of the Magi.  It is on this night, I bake a Three Kings Cake which we have each week until Mardi Gras!

We start packing away our decorations after Epiphany which usually takes about a week or two.  We leave our lights out until the end of January.

  • Write +G +M +B 16 with blessed chalk above the door ways, usually a day or two before the 6th to invite and get the blessings of the Three Kings as they pass through on their way to Bethlehem.

We're doin' this, tomorrow (12th night).  Christmas Eve/Day is sort of "spend time with the Protestant family."

My mother said that when they made the three kings cake it would have a little baby cooked in.

  • That is right, a baby inside.  BUT if you don't have that I resorted to what I could find.  A 1 1/4 plastic star.

    Theophany High Liturgy and the
blessing of Holy Water was good and
lenghty. Got sleepy since it rained so
hard and was cool today. I went to this
also last year was very beautiful.

  • One thing I try to do is to have the children give gifts to the baby Jesus. But don't bring toys or candy. Rather give things like no fighting, not saying bad words, being nice to someone who is unpopular, obeying your parents.

  • WE did this as children.  We took an empty oatmeal container.  Cut in half. Use half lid and half bottom to make cradle rockers. Slit in container.  Have the kids decorate the cradle and when they do good deeds, they may, at the end of their day, put straw or yellow strip paper in cradle. the Cushioning is His gift.  A baby is put in the cradle on Christmas Day.
