  • We are currently studying Communism (looks like we we have a life lesson here in America soon enough). One of the books used by Catholic curriculum's such as Seton is called "The Naked Communist". So far so good. He surely nails Communism on the head. So much so that even my 14 year old can catch THE ONE in his speaches sounding Lenin.

Next up Capitalism. The first three points his puts forth are against Monarchies, "Institutionalized Religion", and the fuedal systems. He points out that the founding fathers were just the men for the job as the were not revolunist, (yes, they were) and that they new lpeople needed to through off the slavery of Monarchs and certain forms of religion (Catholic of course). This I find ironic, as throwing off shackles of Religion is Marxist. Of course as a good Protestant/Judaic he would not see that his thinking leads to Communism.

So, what do I use to teach the truths of Capitalism? And, are there any encyclicals by Popes that address this? I know there must be, I just need names.

    Thanks, Dawn

  • Sorry, I'm of no help, but I'll bump your thread so that maybe someone who knows something will take another look.  :smirk:

  • Dawn,

The books by Father Denis Fahey C.S.S.P. explain the errors of modern capitalism and democratic naturalism. 2 Books I would recommend are The mystical body of Christ and the reorganization of society andThe mystical body of christ and the modern world.

  • The absolute best critique of modern capitalism I can think of is The Servile State by Hilaire Belloc. I recommend this book.
