  • The thread on mail order brides got me thinking about this topic. Sorry if it has been asked before, but I'm sure that for happy, Catholic marriages it especially brings back good memories.

So, how did you meet your husband or wife? We're you a traditionalist before or after you met?

Anyone who is a Traditional Catholic before they get married
should be aware of the enormous blessing they have received
    already.

And any difficulties they encounter as a consequence they
ought to chalk up to their own, personal cross to bear, and it
ought to be another thing to be thankful for!   Welcome to
    the real Faith.

I was a trad before I was married but I didn't know it yet.

You won't very likely meet a good spouse at a bar or at a
rock concert or at a Moose lodge.  You won't find them
hanging around the beach in the summer, mostly naked, or
    going to the movies.

I met my wife in church.  That's where you meet a good
    spouse.

Or, maybe at a church social, like Oktoberfest or Christmas
boutique.Or, a Sunday afternoon potluck in the park.

And don't forget that it's the Faith that matters, and no
matter how much other things are important, in the long
run, the difference of religious dogma is going to be a major
cross to bear for the rest of your life.  It affects your children,
too.  Having both parents sharing the same faith is a very
powerful testimony and backdrop for the childhood of your
    offspring, especially in these days.

Congrats to you and yours!  Did you hear Fr. Hewko's sermon
on St. Christopher?  Go here.  (July 28th, Boston, KY.)

And how about meeting your wife - were you a trad then?

  • I met my husband in a Catholic chat room. He was traditional, I was at the tail end of my time in the Novus Ordo when we met, trying to find a traditional mass with every intention of never going back. I found one and I didn't. So we were both fully committed to the traditional mass at the time of our marriage.

Not everyone had caught up with the changes I made in my life, they were in for a bit of a shock when they showed up for the nuptial mass, complete with mandatory head covering for the ladies.  :laugh2:

How did you meet him on Christmas? Do tell. (Just seems like an unlikely day, given the feast and surrounding events  )

  •  :surprised:I think there are mostly men on here that more haven't responded to this thread.  Not that SOME men are too tough to write about their sweeties!
I'm not married, so I'll say how my parents met.
They met in a restaurant in Manhattan.  Mom was with a female friend.  They'd just come from the wedding reception of a third friend, so were all dressed up.  Dad was on leave from the Navy.  He was with two others, a fellow Navyman and a boyhood friend.  My Mom's friend knew my Dad's friend.  They'd grown up together.  They were introduced.  Mom accepted a date the following week and the rest is history.  This was in 1953.  They got married in 1956.  Just celebrated their 57th anniversary.

St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • Since Saturday is our 22nd wedding anniversary, I will reply.

Neither my husband nor I were Catholic; he was atheist; I was recovering from Pentecostalism and I was a feminist.

I was 1 month into my 23rd year.  He was approaching 28.

    We met at the beach.

Never underestimate the power of God's grace.

Here we are now traditional Catholics with 7 children.

  • Looks like a lot of us were married around the same time; our 5th year anniversary is on Monday :)

My wife and I met in Astronomy class at the local junior college.

So very true! Which is why I refuse to condemn people uncharitably who have not yet converted to the fullness of the Catholic faith. I was exposed to the NO my whole life, and even Traditionalism for a few years prior. It was God who brought me and my wife to a greater understanding of the Faith.
