I just don't get it -- all the stuff going on with the "pope" so called. I agree w/ those who say he is not a valid pope..

Why is he so quick to join up with the enemy (heretics) etc... Doesn't he see a difference btw us and them???

He has been in the Church too long
I mean, seriously... he reminds me of that saying "You need to get out more often." He is so used to living in his clerical world that he does not see what is going on outside it. He may have seen how the poor live in Argentina but he has not seen how the poor live anywhere else and he didn't get it that the reason poor don't do well is b/c of communism and socialism.. Capitalism is flawed also, but not anywhere near the level those other forms of govt are...
but the primary point i want to make is that he has been in clerical office too long .. has lost perspective.. If he can't see the difference btwn a Muslim and a Catholic, he is loony tunes

  • I made a mistake. No one can "be in the Church too long" I mean he has been in the clergy too long meaning that.... as Jesus said "If your foot (clergy) causes you to stumble (lose faith, etc) cut it off and cast it from you."

Because of grievous mortal sins, they lose the faith.

St. John Chrysostom, sometime Patriarch of Constantinople:

“I do not speak rashly, but as I feel and think, I do not think that many priests are saved but that those that perish are far more numerous. The reason is that the office requires a great soul. For there are many things to make a priest swerve from rectitude, and he requires great vigilance on every side. Do you not perceive how many qualities a bishop must have that he may be apt to teach; patient towards the wicked, firm and faithful in teaching the Word? How many difficulties therein.

Moreover the loss of others is imputed to him. I need say no more. If but one dies without baptism, does it not entirely endanger his salvation? For the loss of one soul is so great an evil as no man can understand. If the salvation of one soul is of such importance that, for its sake, the Son of God became man and suffered so much, think of the penalty the loss of one soul will entail”. (Third Homily, Acts of the Apostles)
The Vatican II church - Assisting Souls to Hell Since 1962

For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall show great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. Mat 24:24

  • Sin.

Or excluded by Our Lord, as in the "I never knew you" variety.

that's an interesting psg. What does it mean exactly? A lot of Protestants talk about knowing Jesus but Jesus says it is important that HE know US... I htink that means letting him into every part of our soul and mind and heart, and letting Him change all that is not of Him...

I actually said this myself, in similar words, long ago, and on more than one forum.  It's called career burnout.  He has one of the worst cases of it I have ever witnessed.  I believe that, in addition to affecting his perspective, it (like other career burnouts) results in the bitterness so characteristic of his speech.  Many people experiencing career burnout are the last to realize it, even while those around them notice it and sometimes try to warn them.

The Faith does not operate that way. Faith comes to us by enlightenment from God ("without Me you can do nothing"). If we lose it like Bergolio and all the Vatican II church popes, it is because we rejected/blocked God's grace/enlightenment by our sins, and THAT loss does not come overnight. It is the result of long term rejection of God's grace.

I never said that Faith "operates that way."  I said that he suffers from career burnout.  Those are two completely different subjects.

I'm the one that said the way the Faith operates. The subject of the thread is "How can a Catholic who knows the Church get deep into heresy?"

You answered that Bergolio got deep into heresy by "career burnout". I said that it does not work that way.

And I'm telling you that I know the difference between the way the faith operates and what career burnout is.  He possibly has both, which is why I mentioned I had written about it previously.

There is only one true religion, the Catholic Faith.

I agree. But why can't it be both what you say here and "burnout" or whatever you call it (as poster says)?

  • Guys, popes like Francis and JPII and Benedict don't have career burnout, nor have they gone bonkers, nor are they confused between muslims and catholics...they are revolutionaries who want to change the church, who want to change catholicity in the minds of men, so that their 'modern' and 'enlightened' view of society (i.e. world govt and world relgion) can become reality.  They are not true catholics; if they were, they would not support V2 as staunchly as they do (V2 has been happily described by many modernists as the 'french revolution in the Church').  They do not want the True Faith, but only their version of it.

How did they get to their current mindset?  Who knows.  Modernism has been around since the early 1900s, especially in the seminary and intellectual realms.  One wonders if they ever had a true love of the Faith to begin with.  I'm sure they love parts of the Faith and they love aspects of the Truth, but their version of the Faith is different from ours, no doubt about it.  They don't hide this fact and never have.
