  • For those who homeschool, particularly in the USA, the problem of Common Core 'standards' has made sudden impact on materials used to educate at home.  If you are unaware of what materials are aligned with Common Core, please check out The Educational Freedom Coalition's website.  They have done thorough research on what homeschooling texts and curricula are 'explicitly aligned', 'partially aligned', or 'not aligned'.  It is a good reference.

    The Educational Freedom Coalition

From what I know, Seton and OLVS have stated that they are not and never intend to align with CC.

Moreover, for those interested in college, I just heard from a local lawmaker that colleges will be requiring standardized tests to get in - which of course will be CC-aligned.  There will be monkey-wrenches thrown in to the tests so that homeschoolers will 'fail' and thus not be admitted into the 'hallowed halls' of upper academia.

  • I have been reading up on this as I have 4 grandchildren who will be subjected to it.  It is definitely designed to tear down national identity and move us one generation closer to a one world everything - government, economic system, social standards, religion.  By the time kindergarteners graduate high school they will be well indoctrinated automatons.

Home schooling parents are the ones who do the actual teaching and they can point this out to their children.  It's the kids in the public schools who are being taught by change agents who are usually gullible and "taken in".

  • Sorry, I was expanding the thread to include PS kids as their families really need to jump on this issue.

Homeschoolers will see little impact, at least here in AZ we can teach what we want when we want, using any materials we want, we have complete educational independence from the government.  Our public school kids however will be subjected to CC as AZ has signed on to implement it :fryingpan:

My children were homeschooled but unfortunately they are not in a position to be able to homeschool their own children  so PS is now on my radar.

  • All 50 states are required to implement CC by 2015 or lose all federal monies.  This is Obamacare in education.  The only colleges that accept students without it will be unaccredited.  The degrees they issue will be worthless in the public sphere.  Catholic parents, begin looking NOW for viable alternatives to college.  Catholics must be prepared to accept being marginalized so far as prestigious degrees and professions are concerned.  The CCLS are not only a move towards globalization and the mass-production of useful idiots for the one-world government, they are intrinsically evil.  The humanities are are exchanged for poorly-written non-fiction and technical reading.  The mathematics concentrate on "fuzzy" math.  History excludes the Western world except to portray its atrocities.  Christianity, Catholicism, particularly is presented as evil, whereas Zionism, Islam, and 'native' religions are elevated.  Whites are evil whereas people of color are god-like.  This thing is a monster.
So I ask again, CI readers, for alternatives to college or university that will enable Catholics to pass the Faith to the next generation, whether this be spiritually, in the religious life, or through marriage and family.

Frances, I have a question, isn't federal money  a small % of what districts use, even in Title I schools?

  • The percentage of federal dollars varies tremendously from state to state.  It largely depends upon such factors as the percentage of "minorities'" the presence of major cities, and the state's public-school financial structure.  For example, in New York City there is a heavy reliance upon federal money.  This is due to the prevelance of children with  parent(s) on public assistance.  The CCLS are about money and power, not the education and welfare of children.

  • p.s.  One of the main propents (officially)  is the Muslim Brotherhood.  They get away with this under the guise of "multi-cultural" education.  In 2008, a n.o. Catholic child was enrolled in m class after his Muslim teacher in a novus ordo school taught her class prayers in Arabic, had them "play" at going to mosque and use a prayer rug.  She even brought in clothing for "dress-up.". The child's parents realized "somethîng was wrong" when their son did a demonstration on the rug in front of the kitchen sink.  He knew several Muslim prayers in Arabic, but he did notthe Our Father or Hail Mary.  The principal of this un-Catholic School was a Dominican Nun!  The diocesan schools will implement the Core Curriculum Standards because they need to keep their government funding.  One good thing about these is thàt  it makes it easy, for now,  to determine the goal of a school.  As for  actual content, check on-line for your particular state and grade level.
