Hollywood's numerous followers of the тαℓмυd have nixed a proposed Mel Gibson movie about the Old Testament on the preposterous supposition that the тαℓмυdists have a proprietary relationship with the Old Testament Book of Maccabees. The religion of Orthodox (Pharisaic) Judaism has no copyright on God's Word, which they repeatedly nullify in favor of their rabbis' words. Out of this nullifcation the Pharisees’ religion, known today as "Judaism" was born. The ban on Gibson comes just a few days after the Israelis banned Nobel Laureate Günter Grass because he penned a poem warning of the possible Israeli annihilation of the Iranian people. Exclusive -- Warner Bros. has put on hold a controversial Mel Gibson movie project about the Jєωιѕн Maccabee revolt in the 2nd century B.C. after reading the script by writer Joe Eszterhas, TheWrap has learned.

A spokesman for the studio told TheWrap, "We are analyzing what to do with the project."

Jєωιѕн groups were outraged after news broke in September that Gibson had reached a production deal with Warner's to direct the story of Judah Maccabee, whose victory over Greek and Syrian armies is celebrated at Hanukkah. One Jєωιѕн group called it "a moral lapse in judgment."

Eszterhas delivered the script in late February, and Warner's has since passed on it, according to an individual close to the project. Warner production president Greg Silverman described it as lacking in "feeling" and "a sense of triumph," according to the individual.

As another individual put it, "The script didn't pass muster.”

A spokesman for Gibson had no immediate comment. Eszterhas declined to comment. Warner's has a long history of collaborating with Gibson, but the star was upset after the studio rescinded his cameo in "The Hangover Part II" when the crew protested his involvement.

The project involved one of Gibson's favored themes: an underdog army fighting for freedom. In 165 B.C., Jєωιѕн leader Maccabee led his brothers in revolt against the Seleucid Empire, ruled by Antiochus Epiphanes, who had forbidden Jєωιѕн practices.

Noting his checkered history of making anti-Semitic remarks and his controversial depiction of Jєωs in his 2003 film "The Passion of the Christ," Jєωιѕн leaders said the choice of Gibson to direct a film about a prominent figure in their religion was insensitive.

"Casting him as a director or perhaps as the star of 'Judah Maccabee' is like casting Madoff to be the head of the Securities and Exchange Commission," Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, said in a statement after the project was announced.

The Anti-Defamation League asked Warner's to reconsider the choice of Gibson. In a statement, the group said, "Not only has Mel Gibson shown outward antagonism toward Jєωs and Judaism in his public statements and actions, but his previous attempt to bring biblical history to life on the screen was marred by anti-Semitism."

The American Gathering of h0Ɩ0cαųst Survivors and their Descendants labeled the choice of Gibson a "moral lapse of judgment."

"Given our brutal experience, we are pained that Warner's has abandoned principle and taken this unworthy path," the group said at the time.

Gibson was detained by police in Malibu for drunken driving in 2006 and found himself embroiled in a public relations fiasco when reports surfaced that he had launched into expletive-laden anti-Semitic remarks while in custody.

It was left to Eszterhas to offer a modest defense of Gibson in a New York Times interview in February. The screenwriter noted that he had an anger problem but said he understood how to make a movie of the story of Maccabee on a "Braveheart"-like scale.

"We both saw it as Mel, maybe from his heart, wanting to do a terrific 'Braveheart'-like movie about Jєωιѕн history," said Eszterhas, who said he was comfortable working with Gibson despite his problem.

Now mad Mel can get on with making that Viking movie that everyone would rather see anyways.

Why can't Mel focus on a traditional Catholic theme? Jєωs are portrayed overzealously positive in every movie out there - even their brothel running gangsters are put in a positive light - why not a movie about St. Pius X or put into movie version the Miracle of Fatima or tell the life story of a Catholic priest (pre- VII) who makes his way through the seminary.

Or how about a contemporary Catholic movie about a young man who decides to enter the priesthood today (2012) in a seminary run by the SSPV?

There are so many Catholic stories that need to be told.

Since "The Passion" reflected the Sorrowful Mysteries, I have thought Mel should also do the Joyful and Glorious Mysteries.

Why should he put money in the pocket of the ѕуηαgσgυє of Satan? He should independently produce and distribute the films. By demonstrating that can be done, he would model a way of breaking the hegemony of the ѕуηαgσgυє of Satan and their "entertainment" hasbara.

In an explosive nine-page letter to Gibson obtained by TheWrap (read the
full letter here), the screenwriter wrote that the director of “The
Passion of the Christ” never intended to make the movie about Jєωιѕн
heroism, called “The Maccabees.”

Instead, Eszterhas said, Gibson announced the project “in an attempt to
deflect continuing charges of anti-Semitism which have dogged you,
charges which have crippled your career.”

He added: “I’ve come to the conclusion that the reason you won’t make
‘The Maccabees’ is the ugliest possible one. You hate Jєωs.”

TheWrap reported earlier that Warner Bros. has put the controversial
project on hold, and rejected Eszterhas’s script as lacking in “a sense
of triumph.”

A spokesman for Gibson had no immediate comment.

Eszterhas’ letter reveals a more complex dynamic, a disturbing picture
of Gibson as a man yet again out of control, inflicting frequent rages
on those around him, in the grip of an anti-Semitic obsession, and
possibly dangerous to those around him.

On several occasions, said Eszterhas, Gibson “was wild, crazed, and
explosive.”

The April 9 letter also recounts Gibson’s threatening to kill his
ex-girlfriend, Oksana Gregorieva.

“You were raving at Oksana even after you’d reached a custody agreement
over Luci,” their daughter, the letter says. “And then you were even
more explicit about your threat: “I’m going to kill her! I’m going to
have her killed!” You said you’d become friends with two FBI agents (or
former FBI agents) and they were going to help you to kill her.”

Gibson’s anti-Semitic obsession was a leitmotif of working on the film
together at Gibson’s homes in Malibu and Costa Rica, Eszterhas said.

"You continually called Jєωs 'Hebes' and 'oven-dodgers' and 'Jєωboys.'
It seemed that most times when we discussed someone, you asked 'He’s a
Hebe, isn’t he?' You said most 'gatekeepers' of American companies were
'Hebes' who 'controlled their bosses.'"

The slurs continued, through their work:

“You said the h0Ɩ0cαųst was 'mostly a lot of horseshit.' You said the
Torah made reference to the sacrifice of Christian babies and infants.
When I told you that you were confusing the Torah with The Protocols of
the Elders of Zion, ... you insisted 'it's in the Torah -- it's in
there!' (It isn't)."

And he said Gibson told him that his intention in making “The Maccabees”
was “to convert the Jєωs to Christianity.”

Rabbi Marvin Hier, founder and dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, said
he was not surprised by Eszterhas' allegations. Hier has been a critic
of Gibson's involvement in the Maccabee project since the film was
announced in September.

“I was not among those that offered any forgiveness,” Hier said. “The
whole apology was a joke. It was written by a publicity agent. If he
wanted to profoundly apologize, he could do it the right way. He could
visit a cσncєnтrαтισn cαмρ. He could take a course on h0Ɩ0cαųst studies.
He could write an opinion piece. He did none of that, so it comes as no
surprise to me.”

Eszterhas, who declined to comment for this story, has himself lived a
tumultuous life. He was at one point one of Hollywood’s highest-paid,
most sought-after screenwriters, writing such hits as the erotic
thriller “Basic Instinct” and “Flashdance.”

He had a religious awakening after contracting throat cancer in 2001 and
left Hollywood, moving back to his native Cleveland.

Eszterhas has dealt candidly with anti-Semitism in his own family,
writing a book about his Hungarian father’s pro-nαzι past (his father
was investigated by the Justice Department for alleged war crimes). He
also wrote “The Music Box,” starring Jessica Lange as the daughter of an
immigrant learning that her father was a war criminal. The film was
loosely based on his family.

The Maccabee project, which Eszterhas said he worked on for two years,
was his first major foray back into the movie industry. And he said it
was “an attempt to somewhat ease my personal paternal burden.”

After encountering Gibson’s conduct, Eszterhas writes that he felt
trapped, but then decided to ignore the racist remarks and write the
script based on his own research.

He implores Gibson to return the script to him. With Warner rejecting
the script, Gibson has the option to take it elsewhere.

Since "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy was done so well, I would like to see Mel focus on bringing "The Divine Comedy" to the big screen. Today's computer technology could pull it off.

And if done right, it would send many thoughtful novus ordites to the bookstore looking for the book and, by reading the book, they may decide to dig a little deeper into the Catholic Church and it's sacred history and traditions.

Mel Gibson vs. Joe Eszterhas

Mel Gibson has fired a return volley toward Joe Eszterhas in the jousting over why Warner Bros. rejected the screenwriter's screenplay for a proposed movie about Jєωιѕн warrior Judah Maccabee.

The studio said Wednesday that it was not proceeding with Eszterhas' script and was “analyzing what to do with the project.”

The news prompted the “Basic Instinct” writer to allege in a letter posted by the Wrap (http://www.thewrap.com) that Gibson, who was to produce and possibly direct the film, never wanted to make it because, as Eszterhas said of Gibson, “You hate Jєωs.”

The actor and filmmaker, in response, sent Eszterhas a letter of his own, also sent to the Los Angeles Times, alleging that Eszterhas' script was “substandard” and “a waste of time.”

The full text of the letter follows:

Joe,

I have your letter. I am not going to respond to it line by line, but I will say that the great majority of the facts as well as the statements and actions attributed to me in your letter are utter fabrications. I would have thought that a man of principle, as you purport to be, would have withdrawn from the project regardless of the money if you truly believed me to be the person you describe in your letter. I guess you only had a problem with me after Warner Brothers rejected your script.

I will acknowledge like most creative people I am passionate and intense. I was very frustrated that when you arrived at my home at the expense of both Warner Brothers and myself you hadn't written a single word of a script or even an outline after 15 months of research, meetings, discussions and the outpouring of my heartfelt vision for this story. I did react more strongly than I should have. I promptly sent you a written apology, the colorful words of which you apparently now find offensive. Let me now clearly apologize to you and your family in the simplest of terms.

Contrary to your assertion that I was only developing Maccabees to burnish my tarnished reputation, I have been working on this project for over 10 years and it was publicly announced 8 years ago. I absolutely want to make this movie; it's just that neither Warner Brothers nor I want to make this movie based on your script.

Honestly, Joe, not only was the script delivered later than you promised, both Warner Brothers and I were extraordinarily disappointed with the draft. In 25 years of script development I have never seen a more substandard first draft or a more significant waste of time. The decision not to proceed with you was based on the quality of your script, not on any other factor.

I think that we can agree that this should be our last communication.

That being the case why not simply say that to the guy back in February and pay him off?

Especially, if you had used colourful language around him, his wife and his 15 year old son.

The controversy is not about whether the script is good or bad, a few days later. That is a diversion.

The issue here is Mel Gibson ranting that he wanted to sodomize and stab his ex-girlfriend (to an 15 year old boy), calling Jєωs obscene names and generally acting like either a selfish hate filled nutcase.

That might be all lies of course but Joe Eszterhas claims that he has a lot of it on tape.

All this could have been avoided of course had Gibson simply remained married to his first wife and mother of his seven children.

For the sake of art, it seems you have to discount the artistic temperament and behaviour between artists. The product comes first, so why make this into a big issue? Successful film studios should be used to all this and Mel is bound to be a target for lesser mortals.
