  • To All My Liberal Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or explicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral celebration of the winter solstice/Chanukkah/Kwanzaa/& c. holiday, practiced within the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2010, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make America great.  Not to imply that America is necessarily greater than any other country nor the only America in the Western Hemisphere.

Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed, color, age, physical ability, religious faith, or sɛҳuąƖ preference of the wishee, not to exclude joint tax-payers filing singly.

    To All My Catholic Friends:

Blessed Advent, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!

  • *LOL* good to see you Matthew... I love that greeting. It goes with a "Unitarian Christmas Carol" that was on Prairie Home Companion this afternoon: the lyrics qualified every reference to the Divine Child and to joy with "but we're not sure", and ""or whatever you believe" (not exact quotes but words to that effect....)

How impoverished is the "liberal" season!

  • These are special times.

I wish everybody the politically acceptible wishes of good health, wealth, joy, and peace. These are good things to wish for our fellow man, especially if they are famillies and friends. These are wishes I've made clear to my friends and coworkers of different religions, and I happily received Christmas (yes, 'Merry Christmas') wishes from them. This time of the year seems to bring out the best in people - is why I love it.

To my fellow Catholics, I hope and pray we all make a good communion in a few days and enjoy the celebration that our church puts forth in honor of our savior's birth. More than that,  I hope we all boot this past year away and start off on a new foot when we leave church on Christmas. Grow closer to God, grow and defend our faith, and just be better people.

I am outraged that you found it necessary to make a list of human qualities solely based on appearances and life-style choices. This kind of retrograde mindset, typical of those raised in an era of repression and discrimination perpetrated by a minority-insensitive culture based on outmoded colonialist, imperialist, and patriarchical mentalities, can no longer be permitted to express itself freely in the public sphere which is the Internet. One would hope that in the twenty-first century progressive forward-thinking individuals would no longer have to be subjected to such ultra-right wing drivel.

I consider your thoughtless statements to constitute a Hate Crime and I assure you that the proper authorities have been notified.

Thank you, comrade. I myself wil have the opportunity to speak with the Proper Authorities next week at a conference sponsored by NARWAL/PETA/Move-On.org to analyze the implications of the Copenhagen Climate-Change Summit. We are going to engage in restorative chant with a Yamomano Indigenous Native American leader from the Amazon after a carbon-free, organic luncheon prepared by victims of mental abuse from traditionalist Catholic nuns. I shall raise the matter in our subcommittee meeting after the chant and luncheon.
