  • Did you know tomorrow is the Feast Day of your celestial Patron, St. Stanislaus of Kostka?

In Jesuit Churches, his Feast Day is kept as a Double Major, and as a Double of the Second Class in Formation and Novitiate Houses of the Jesuit Order.

The secular clergy of Rome and its districts kept his Feast Day, joining him with another great Jesuit youth, St. John Berchmans, Confessor, on the 6th of September with a proper Office.

As a treat for you (and others) here is the Proper Mass of St. Stanislaus, taken from The Missal-Vesperal with Commentary (Turnhout, Belgium: Brepolis Catholic Press, 1932).

May his patronage and tutelage avail you unto an augmentation of the theological virtues, the infused moral virtues and the gifts of the Holy Ghost, and may his example encourage you to embrace a generous and boundless magnanimity in cultivating the interior life and progressing therein even unto that mystical union which is the immediate prelude for Heaven.

  • Ah, thank you Hobbles.  This saint has interceded for me powerfully, specifically when it comes to curing me of my lustful mind.  I once confused not committing mortal sins of the flesh with having a clean mind; but it's not the same.  Even after ceasing to commit mortal sin, my mind was drawn to sleaze.

Somehow whenever I compare myself to this saint here I see that there is a greater step to take, that there is always farther that I can go.  My mind has been almost white as snow since I began praying to him.  It's interesting because at first I was one of those who thought "My favorite is St. Augustine since he was a sinner like me, I don't get those young saints who were perfect from day one, I can't relate to them."  Well, it's not about relating to them, it's about learning from them.

I think there is something touching about a 35-year old scuzzball being given a pure angelic youth like St. Stanislaus as a patron; and becoming more like him, recapturing a bit of innocence.  Though it isn't official that he has been "given" to me, of course, he is just one of those who I feel has interceded for me and who I have fostered a devotion towards.
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.
