The SSPX in Zimbabwe sent this newsletter around recently, which I received through a friend of mine. In short, it tells of their missionary efforts and of conditions there, but more importantly, the mission needs help!

 This newsletter reports that there is little food left anywhere in Zimbabwe, and the little there is left is only for sale at high cost. This poverty is nothing new, however this mission is trying to do something about it... both the poverty of the bodies and the poverty of the souls there.

 Since the mission was founded, it sounds like the area it is in has seen a drastic change for the better. How much better life must be, if there is at least ONLY starvation to be concerned about, and not also lack of peace?

Normally when we hear about the situation in foreign countries, we hesitate to help for many reasons. Will the people we donate goods or money to actually give them to the poor, or keep some if not most of it for themselves? Will the government there let the relief into the country, or confiscate it? So many worries.

  Well, it seems that this traditional Catholic mission has gotten through, and is doing as much good as it is able with the resources given it. This newsletter details the situation there, and  tells us how we can help in this most important (because it is so desperately needed) charity.

 In the spirit of the earliest church as we read of it in the Acts of the Apostles, I hope many Catholics will respond. We have so much. Whatever our attitudes toward the SSPX, they are trying to help, not only with food, but with secular and spiritual education too... and we can make that possible.

 Well, that's one thing I can almost safely say without knowing anything at all directly from them. I once worked giving free Catholic books and prayer cards to foreign countries... and I was almost ALWAYS swamped in requests for scapulars, rosaries and holy cards from Africa, India, the Philippines... People in Africa would write a letter and go on and on about how glad they were to get a single booklet, how it changed their lives, how they have nothing there...

 So I think it's probably safe to say that you could not possibly make enough rosaries in your lifetime to fulfill all of the need for them in those parts of the world. I would definitely (if you are interested in doing so) write to them and offer any rosaries you would like to send! I'm sure there are never enough. Or if, by some miracle, they have enough at that mission, I'm sure they could tell you of other missions of theirs where they don't have enough. Rosaries, scapulars, books, prayer cards and other such goods are always in demand. Good thought! It's worth asking them anyhow!

(PS... If they do need them, maybe cord rosaries would be best... Somehow I don't think they can really fix chain link ones easily there.)
