  • Those judaized Brits love to promote their anti-Catholic "blood" myths.

    Production

On February 2017, BBC ordered Gunpowder then announced the three part drama series was to be developed by Ronan Bennett, Kit Haringtonand Daniel West, written by Ronan Bennett and produced by Kudos. The series stars Kit Harington, Peter Mullan, Mark Gatiss, and Liv Tyler, and is directed by J Blakeson.[4] Filming started in late February 2017. Filming locations included the National Trust's East Riddlesden Hall and Fountains Abbey, alongside popular visitor attractions such as Oakwell Hall, Ripley Castle, Haddon Hall, Kirkstall Abbey, Bolton Abbey, Lendal Bridge in York City Centre and the famous Ilkley Moor. Beverley Minsterdepicted the regal splendour of the Palace of Westminster.

    Reception
On the review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the series has an approval rating of 67% based on 21 reviews, with an average rating of 5.9/10. On Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating, the series has a score 63 out of 100, based on 10 critics, indicating "generally favourable reviews".[14]
The initial reaction to the first episode was mired with complaints from viewers about the depicted scenes of torture, nudity and disembowelment, despite the broadcast time being 10 minutes after the watershed of 9 pm. Nonetheless, it was described as 'a very good drama' by other viewers.
"Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will trample it underfoot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days Our Lord Jesus Christ will send them not a true Pastor but a destroyer."  St. Francis of Assisi

  • I watched it. It was okay.  I can't recommend it, though.

Kit Harrington didn't play Guy Fawkes. He played Robert Catesby.

All the nudity takes place in the execution scene. Elizabeth Catesby  is sentenced to death along with a young priest. She is stripped and crushed with stones. The nudity is pretty unnecessary and could have been avoided with better camera angles.  The young priest is disemboweled and drawn and quartered.  It's graphic but it is historically accurate.

The show was sympathetic to Catholics up until Robert visits Spain.   There it showed the Spanish burning Jєωs at the stake. It tried to equate Catholic suffering in England to the suffering of Jєωs under the inquisition.

    Some other takeaways:

It hinted that King James I was a ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖ.  He's always in the company of a young man.

It hinted that one of the Catholic priest was in a relationship with Anne Vaux. It wasn't a sɛҳuąƖ relationship but a relationship of the heart.

The Spanish were secretly involved in stopping the plot by getting a priest go give up the location. The Spanish do it to secure their peace treaty.

King James I is manipulated by Lord Robert Cecil and is main driving force behind the Catholic persecution.

The English aren't portrayed as sympathetic in the mini-series.

  • Thanks for review. My understanding is that the Spanish couldn't have stopped it because there never was any GP found under Parliament in the first place. Sources-- von Pastor & Belloc. These shows almost always show INQ 'persecuting' Judaux.
