With regards to the Old Testament, our interpretations of ancient history are based on so much guesswork that it's inevitable that a lot of things in scripture will become unclear over time. For starters, Egyptian chronology is an absolute mess (with many discrepancies between historical and archaeological evidence) and it's used to calibrate the timeline of every other ancient civilization. Even without the sacred texts themselves being corrupted (which is possible as far as the purely historical aspects are concerned), so many things can only make sense if placed in their proper context - a context which for the most part we are no longer privy to - and may even seem absurd outside of it.
Your comments are very intriguing since Christians’ who run to the defense of the Judaic Torah as a ‘holy book’ wherein the story of Abraham and Sarah as related within the book of Genesis is indeed one in which Abraham has prostituted Sarah to Pharaoh, knowing all the while what a position such as this entails, in order that he be ‘well treated’ in exactly the same manner as takes place today with any pimp. Abraham, of course, was rewarded by Pharaoh with ‘sheep, oxen, asses, male and female slaves, and camels’.
And the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Isaac is seen engaging in the very same behavior with his own wife, Rebecca, i.e. attempting to sell her into prostitution through the mechanism of coercing her into lying to the men of Gerar that she is Isaac’s ‘sister’ rather than his wife, intimating that she is thus unmarried and available for whoever has his sights set on her.
The “esteemed” Abraham and Isaac are nothing but typical Jєωs who’ll do anything to save their own skin much like the Judiacs of today.
Therefore, should anyone wonder where my doubts about the Faith come from the paragraphs above should be self-explanatory. I read this rubbish which the Church claims is "inspired" and it rather knocks one's belief into a cocked hat.
Having said that, what's worse is that Paul, James and indeed Christ himself make many references to old Abe. Talk about confusion.
I happy to hear that I'm not the only one who finds fault with some of these texts.
Finally, where does that leave us who wander in the wilderness?
Thank you for your valuable insights.
