Our family has been members of an SSPX chapel in northern Texas for 10 years now in good standing.

It started with a simple conversation between the coordinator and my husband and me on the anticipation of the arrival of our newly assigned parish priest, newly ordained and very young. The coordinator was staring into thin air as if he were in a trance, and holding up his two fingers and thumb he motioned as if he were turning them and exclaimed, "Ah, yes, someone that I will be able to mold".

This is very unCatholic. Could he possibly be a narcissist I thought to myself?  The following weeks he started accosting a couple of the parishioners, including my husband and myself. He is a charmer with both the men and women of the parish, a schmoozer.

I told the priest about the accosting, he never got back with me. That was months ago.
So, I wrote to the prior about the accosting, that was 3 weeks ago and haven't heard from him either.
Had I mentioned the coordinator trying to mold the priest they for sure would think I have gone bonkers.

I will never forget those frightening words that came out of his mouth.

You'll just have to feel it out; comments may have been made tongue-in-cheek.  Just keep an eye on him and keep the priest posted.  Look out for the priest's back also if you see the coordinator attempting to manipulate him.  Be his eyes and ears, as it were.

Yes, he's very likely a narcissist ... someone who feeds off of human respect.

Mr Newbie only waited until post #4 to attack the SSPX in an underhanded way.

I have never attended a SSPX chapel; I don't even know any SSPX priests. But I am tired of supposed traditional Catholics who have nothing better to do than spread rumors in an attempt to undermine an organization which provides the TLM for many Catholics.

If I had a suspicious mind, I would be wondering how many of those attacking SSPX are doing so in the mistaken belief that they are supporting TFP and TIA.

I don't see this as an attack.  Pretty much any chapel or any organization occasionally has some personal dynamics like this, and I don't understand how having a pushy or controlling narcissistic coordinator would redound to the discredit of the SSPX.  It's not uncommon for a coordinator to develop a sense of self-importance, act like he practically runs the place, and tells the priests what to do.  Especially if you have more than one priest rotating through, in that case, the coordinator might even have more power than the priest.  I've seen it in SV groups as well as in SSPX groups, in independent organizations, and even in Motu groups.

What exactly is your obsession with TFP?  You seem utterly fixated with TFP.  So now someone talking about a pushy coordinator = attacking SSPX = promoting TFP.

This user joined in January, thanked people for meatless recipes and proposed one of her own, then later in March asked about blessed salt.  I'm sure the entire time she was a TFP member just waiting to pounce.

And, actually, it's Mrs. or Ms. Newbie, not Mr.

In what way has he been "accosting" people at the chapel?  Is he just going up the them and asking their names and trying to be social ... or does he appear to be trying to make a power grab in the vacuum before the newly-ordained priest arrives.?

Agreed. And she's fixated on TIA as well.

  • Thank you, everyone, for your kind posts.  After much consideration, my husband and I moved on to another parish. We've been attending the Latin Rite mass for 66 years and after doing some research I found an FSSP church that opened in the Fort Worth and we joined it.  I guess they have been there since 2015.  God bless.

  • Yes.  It was at SSPX.  We left because of that and other factors.

Just recently I had some nosy body pant wearing baby boomer give me a hard time at diocesan Latin Mass.

May God bless you and keep you

  • Accosted?  That sounds highly accusatory and possibly physical.  I think all of us need to practice charity, to give the soft answers that turn away wrath.  Too many trads are spoiling for a fight.  To what end?

  • Have been accosted physically by an SSPX priest for being resistance. Then banned from the chapels, and then refused all sacraments (because I didn't respect the ban).

    Happy days!

  • Was verbally abused and harassed by coordinator who listened and sided with a woman who had left the church in the past and was involved in witchcraft, sex and drugs.

And yes, we had attended resistance masses.  Three times our parishioner membership paper work was tore up and thrown away.  I witnessed it third time.  Which also tells me that someone should check their accounting records.  Also, the pastor of the time would later be connected to sex scandal in Idaho. Was going to sedevacantist chapel which was magnet  for sodomites and pedophiles priests.   We left and went to retired priest who was offering Latin mass out of small home until he died. That was awesome.  We were a small gathering but was able to pray in peace.   Then had no choice but to go to indult and it’s drama.

    no choice?

What about persevering in the faith in your particular circuмstances like Catholics have done in many situations for 2000 years?
