  • Happy St. Joseph's Day, also known as the Feast of St. Joseph or the Solemnity of St. Joseph! Honor be to the adoptive father of our Lord Jesus Christ, and patron saint of workers and of Canada!

As a side note, according to the new calendar, this feast day falls on the Saturday before Palm Sunday (the...15th of March this year?) when it falls during Holy Week. However, I assume that most of the people on this forum (myself included) don't follow the new calendar.

I'm not sure, but I think the feast would have been moved out of Holy Week even under the traditional calendar.

It's not mentioned in the SSPX newsletter here, anyway. Today is just "Wednesday in Holy Week".

  • Because of Easter's timing this year, St. Joseph's feast day is celebrated on April 1.

For that matter, the Annunciation is celebrated March 31, because March 25 was "busy" being the octave of Easter.

A very unusual year, liturgically speaking!

  • Could someone give a short explanation of what is meant by new calendar--is this a v2 innovation?
There Is No Such Thing As 'Sede Vacantism'...
nor is there such thing as a 'Feeneyite' or 'Feeneyism'

Not all the feasts in the traditional calendar are on the same days in the new.

For example, originally, the Feast of Christ the King was on the last Sunday in October. In the New Rite, it's the last Sunday in November.

  • Yes, OK, now I'm thoroughly confused.  :fryingpan:

I guess I'll just take Matthew's word for it, since he seems to know what's going on (for the most part).

That doesn't stop Polish Americans from celebrating St. Joseph's day at home, just as the Irish celebrated St. Patrick's day at home.

    Swieta Jozefa ora pro nobis!

Also, a few years ago the Feast of the Annunciation fell on Good Friday. While, the Latin Church transferred the feast, the Byzantine Church never transferres it, and therefore, for the first time in about 60 years, a Divine Liturgy with the consecration of the Eucharist took place on Good Friday.
