  • Another August birthday!!  :rahrah:

I'll tell you about a stupid thing that happened to me at your age so you might spare yourself some trouble...

After I finished high school, I decided I'd try and find a "real" job (as opposed to McDonalds which I'd done the summer previous) that I might be able to continue PT once I started college. I went to a local employment agency looking for an office job. I took all of their Word/Excel/Access tests and scored at the top of their scoring as I'd worked with these programs competitively in high school. So, she goes to her files and finds me the "perfect" job ... small business, flexible hours, needs a jack-of-all-trades to do misc office work, pays more than McDonalds... She'd done everything but tell me where to show up on Monday morning and then took a look at the application I'd filled out when I walked in the door and said, "You're only 17??"

Me - "Uh, yeah, I'll be 18 in about 8 weeks."

    Her - "Sorry, I can't hire a 17-y-o."

She wasted my whole afternoon. I went a few days later and got a job at Jack in the Box. That manager hired me in about 10 minutes.

Wow Mater, it must have been rough working at a place like McDonalds that has a guy with red hair staring at you.  :laugh1:
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

What a story... I still have yet to get a job because it wasn't until I went on that dreaded vacation that scandalized me in more ways than I'm willing to mention that my mother gave me the ultimatum of "you have to get a job!" This was being said despite the fact that I had asked to get a job earlier and she resisted that notion for no real reason.
