Apparently that made the front headline of the news -- that the July 4th weekend had about 60 shootings.

For example, police shot and killed 2 16-year-old suspects.

Assuming those police were shooting ARMED suspects, those 16 year olds could NOT have legally owned a gun in Illinois. Trust me, I know. You have to be 21 years old to get your FOI card (Firearms Owner Identification). You can't legally own a gun unless you apply for and receive such a card. You need to present that card ANYWHERE you (legally) purchase a gun.

Chicago already has very strict gun laws.

It's a very Democratic city and, let's face it: Obama used to live there. And yes, there are a lot of blacks living in (any big city, but especially) Chicago. Among them are plenty of "gangsters" and gangster wanna-bes. You know, the fatherless ones that are raised without morals. Look up the statistics on what % of children are born to single moms, broken down by race. It's very sad.

God designed children to need, and be raised by, a mother AND a father. Nature doesn't forgive. When you have an epidemic of single parenthood, you're going to have all sorts of nasty consequences.

I just don't believe that there is any direct correlation between gun control, or lack thereof, and crime.  Some areas with very strict gun control have low gun crime rates (Australia, the UK, Ireland) while others have high gun crime rates (Chicago, Baltimore, South Africa, Mexico).  Gun-friendly areas are likewise split.

Matthew is right that the break-down of the family is the true problem.

Death penalty. Immediately and without years of appeals. Once convicted you get a day or so to get your life in order, You get a traditional priest to hear your confession (assuming the criminal wants one) and then off to the gallows.
