  •   Blessed are you!
As for me, I am related to some kings, some slaves, some chaste people, some adulterous ones, murderers, arabs, persians etc.

Here in Iran, most people have bloods of different nations in them. (every nation who attacked us, married/raped persian women)

Just I am assured that I have not a single drop of any christian blood!

  • I can only go back 5 generations, if I go back any further, I
might find some hanging from a tree.
I believe that genealogy has no relation to the type of person
you are today. Each person is responsible for his, or hers actions.
We are responsible for our sins, and omissions. We cannot
blame a long dead ancestor for what we are, and what we do
    today.

Very nice kamalayka. I too have an interesting family history. From what I know, my direct ancestors include Russian, Austrian(HRE)/Dalamatian, and Papal nobility.
    Pray for me, always.

RC1953, have you read Scripture? The sins of the ancestors are very often visited on the descendants.

The sins of the forefathers are visited on the grandchildren and great-grandchildren three or four generations down the line -- I have a feeling we're in for some of that punishment.

I've always taken that to mean that there is a physical punishment, like a Flood, for the descendents of depraved generations, but I don't think that means all the descendants are necessarily cursed.  They just have to pay, maybe with their lives or with lots of suffering.

Are you saying there is a spiritual curse, that those who come from bad blood are doomed to hell?   In the Old Testament bloodlines occasionally passed on a curse, like the curse of Ham.  But it seems that was abrogated with the coming of Christ.  That is why Jesus says that He came to divide with a sword, to turn father against son, mother against daughter.  Within families, there will be good and bad; therefore, no more familial curse.

I was just researching the curse of Ham and read a bizarre quote by Anne Catherine Emmerich.  I think this one deserves its own thread!
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

    Not a chance.

No. An ancesory curse only makes you suffer the mystical effects of your ancesors' sins (like a child of a prostitue who suffers infamy and fatherlessness because of what his mother has done) But it is to the person himself to decide whether or not to obey God and be saved.
We indeed have canonized Saints who were born of idol worshippers, heretics and impure people.
Even in case of a demonic posession, the soul is free to sin or not, though the body and other faculties are under a diabolic influence.

Not to get too personal, clare, but I thought you were in England.  Did you move to the land of koalas and kangaroos, or are you on vacation?  If you don't even want to respond, that is understandable.  Either way, I pray you are well in body, mind, and soul.  Salud! :alcohol:  Godspeed, clare.
