Title: Guess this song ?
Post by: Incredulous on January 08, 2019, 12:20:38 PM

Guess this golden oldie song and band name?

(Hint: It's on Quid Retribuam Domino's "top ten" list) :cowboy:

Well, no one told me about her
 The way she lied
Well, no one told me about her
 How many people cried...

But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don't bother trying to find her
 She's not there!

Well, let me tell you 'bout the way she looked
The way she acts and the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
 But she's not there!!

Well, no one told me about her
 What could I do?
Well, no one told me about her
 Though they all knew

But it's too late to say you're sorry
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don't bother trying to find her
 She's not there!!!

Well, let me tell you about the way she looked
The way she acted... the color of her hair
Her voice was soft and cool, her eyes were clear and bright
 But she's not there!!!

But it's too late to say you're sorry

Here's the Zombies singing the song: "She's not there" (https://youtu.be/QojlKXob73o)

I've known of this song for decades, but after re-reading the lyrics, I think the ultimate meaning is the ex-boyfriend "offed" the girl.

Here's an analysis of a similar view:

I always interpreted the song as being about a murder interrogation. The fact that it was in past tense seemed like a pretty clear giveaway. The narrator is being questioned by police and initially denies even knowing the girl (this is the entire first verse), but he slips and reveals he knows quite a few details, enough to make him suspicious (the second verse). He gets nervous and tries to take this back, and makes several flimsy excuses. Eventually he just flat-out begs the police to stop looking for her body (they're obviously looking in the right place) and pretty much removes any doubt in the police's mind that he killed her. Quite nasty lyrics for such a light song.

I like that song. Also "Time of the Season" by them is good too, and the singer Colin Blunstone's cover of "What Becomes of the Broken Hearted?"

That’s such an odd creepy song.

I wouldn’t want someone to associate me listening to it lol

Yeah Clare, that was a good song!
Colin had a soft voice that adapted well to such lyrics.

.
A band whose name is "The Zombies" today would have a very different costume and appearance.

1965 was the year Vat.II closed and the world's Catholics heard the excuse "IN ACCORD WITH THE [unclean] SPIRIT OF VATICAN II," when the liturgical changes leading up to the Newmass were started ad experimentum, and the year they decided to abandon the Oath Against Modernism in all the seminaries of the world. Among other things.

Ah Lady Clare,

Sometimes methinks it must be Providence when we cross paths on the forums: :-\

Colin Blunstone - The Lonely Jєω On Christmas lyrics

It's hard to be a Jєω on Christmas
My Friends won't let me join in any games..
And I can't sing Christmas songs
Or decorate a Christmas tree..
Or leave water out for Rudolph
Cos there's something wrong with me..
My people don't believe in Jesus Christ's divinity..
I'm a Jєω, a Lonely Jєω.. on Christmas.

Hanukkah is nice, but why is it,
That Santa passes over my house every year?
And instead of eating Ham
I have to eat Kosher LATKEES..
Instead of Silent Night
I'm singing hou-hazch-tou-gavish..
And what the f--ck is up
With lighting all these f--cking Candles, tell me please?
I'm a Jєω, a Lonely Jєω..
I'd be merry but I'm Hebrew, on Christmas

Hey Little Boy, I can't help but hear,
You're feeling left out of Christmas Cheer..
But i've come to see that you shouldn't be sad
'Cos this is the one month that you shoud be glad..
Because it's nice to be a Jєω on Christmas

You don't have to deal with the season at all..
You don't have to be on your best behaviour, or give to charity
You don't have to go to grandma's house with your alcoholic family..
And I don't have to sit on some fake Santa's lap
And have him breathe his stinky breath on me!

That's right! You're a Jєω, a Stylin' Jєω..
It's a good time, to be Hebrew.. on Christmas.

Walk along the river, sweet lullaby, it just keeps on flowing,
It don't worry 'bout where it's going, no, no.
Don't fly, mister blue bird, I'm just walking down the road,
Early morning sunshine tell me all I need to know

[CHORUS:]
You're my blue sky, you're my sunny day.
Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way,
Turn your love my way, yeah.

Good old sunday morning, bells are ringing everywhere.
Goin to Carolina, it won't be long and I'll be there
