  • If you meet with a non Catholic group and they pray do you just keep your eyes open and then say your own pray after?

  • Question: "Is it permitted for Catholics to be present at, or to take part in, conventions, gatherings, meetings, or societies of non-Catholics which aim to associate together under a single agreement everyone who, in any way, lays claim to the name Christian?

In the negative... It is clear, therefore, why this Apostolic See has never allowed its subjects to take part in the assemblies of non-Catholics, There is only one wav in which the unity of Christians may be fostered, and that is by furthering the return to the one true Church of Christ those who are separated from her. " (Pope Pius XI, Mortalium Animos)

  • If anyone knows the source, there is an explanation on how to handle this. I cannot remember where I read it but it states that you can't pray with them, and it gave the suggestion of just even bowing your head before sitting as a substitute for saying it out loud, if you are in a situation where it would gravely offend your host or cause scandal.

I will rack my brain to remember the source, obviously it is an approved Catholic source. If I can remember it, I will post it.

So, I can only eat by myself?   Oh, well.  That's what I do 95% of the time, anyway!
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

Keep the faith Frances. Some of us are in the same boat. God with us.

  • I have never had this problem. I have never eaten a single meal with non-Catholics who actually prayed before and after a meal.
    R.I.P.
Please pray for the repose of my soul.

  • I have.  I simply remain silent.  I doubt anyone has ever even noticed.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

    Thank you. Please do post.

I was told to do as you say, but to also make the sign of the cross. There was even another Catholic with this habit, but I would like to know what the source says. It does come up.
Is it not we miserable sinners who pierced this most innocent heart of Mary at the time of the Passion of the Savior, with countless thousands of shafts of sorrow by our innumerable sins? How greatly are we obliged, then, to render all the honor within

  • If I'm in public and with people of other faiths I do make the sign of the cross and pray before my meal.
The only time I have not is when I'm in a family's home and I'm sure they would not want their children to see that.
My question is what do I do when I'm in a group where a protestant decides to bless the meal for the group while they are praying.

  • You really should not put yourself in a position where you will be in the presence of Protestants having communal prayer.  Why would a devout Catholic put himself/herself in a group situation like this in the first place, knowing (I assume) that you would be expected to participate in this religious gathering?
My goodness, in todays world you definitely have to be discerning on what type of group you should be involved in, ESPECIALLY a group with religious expectations.

It's not a religious gathering but there are protestant present and sometimes a protestant pastor will pray before we eat.

I understand the verse but now how is it related to what I posted? What am taking heed in not doing?

Evangelizing does not mean praying with Protestant heretics.  It means showing them the way to the Church.  If I knew that a Protestant minister was going to lead the group in prayer, I would leave the room.  Your "pearls" are your Catholic prayers and Catholic Faith.  By praying with Protestants you cast your Catholic Faith, your Treasure, your "pearls" among those (swine) who think you approve of what they are doing ("lest, perhaps, they trample them under their feet") and will attempt to prosthelytize YOU and turn you from the Catholic Faith or blaspheme our Holy Church (and turning upon you, they tear you).

The Assisi blasphemies that JP2 orchestrated was a prime example of casting your pearls before swine and giving that which is holy to dogs
