  • I read an article a while back where the writer claimed that the music used by the Jєωs at the Temple was Gregorian Chant. That the Catholic Church merely continued using the same music that Her first converts in Jerusalem had known from their infancy.

Anybody know any more about this?

Anybody know the article I am inquiring about?

  • It's true.

I have a music book published by a Lutheran publisher that also mentions that the modal chants of the [Catholic] church were based on chants dating to Old Testament times.

I also read somewhere that once a rabbi heard a Catholic choir singing a certain Alleleiua and he recognized and sang the same chant, only in Hebrew.

Not quite sure where I read it though.

    Thanks Vlad.

I did some google searching and found this:

    http://oxfordgregorianchant.blogspot.com/p/gregorian-chant.html

but it is not the original article I was thinking of.

Still, I have to wonder why a whole generation of reformers and liturgists would suppress Gregorian Chant knowing full well that it is a direct link to our continuity from the Old Covenant.

Oh. I guess I just answered my own question.
