  • I was bored and looking at the active users index and I notice that googlebot is printing a lot of political threads at the moment. Does that mean anything or is that just bot computer programming language stuff? It's kind of creepy to be honest, like the big guys are watching and docuмenting this forum...

  • Watch out. Vandeler would consider you a conspiracy theorist.  :tinfoil:

    Maybe it's a glitch.

  • Yeah, I have seen it say that GoogleBot and Yahoo! Slurp are posting even though they aren't. But as Lybus said, maybe it's a glitch.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

  • Google, Yahoo ect bots aren't exactly smart enough to know that when you follow the "print" link, you're going to see the same thing. Those "print" pages are archived just like everything else and while the bot is on that page, the Active Users will say that GoogleBot is printing.

Likewise, if the bot follows a PM link, the record will show that they're "using the messenger."

As for guests posting, perhaps they're trying to do so unsuccessfully.

  • What's really quite interesting is that GoogleBot, Yahoo! Slurp and MSNBot almost always seem to be online. I could maybe understand this if they posted, but they don't post. And really, I haven't even seen people who do post here online as often as they are.

  • You can "print" to PDF files, HTML files, etc.  Maybe it's easier for them to capture the essential data while ignoring all the ads, eye candy, etc.  Matthew will know for sure.
