  • It's been fun, and I have learned some things along the way.  However, my ignore count has gone from 2 to 4, and I am really sick of that "feature," so I am leaving.  This will be my last post.  Further replies to this thread will not be read nor will any PMs to me.  If you wish to email me, you can do so at Jehanne@mchsi.com.  Please check out my other thread on EENS and secular scholarship.  I am interested in collecting source material in that area, so if you find something interesting, please feel free to send it my way.

Matthew, as a final act, I would like to request a self-ban, so please move my account to that category.  This will protect my account from being raided, unlikely, yes, but impossible, no.

    Blessings,

    Don

  • If being ignored by 1/2 of 1 percent of the forum membership makes you give up posting ("What's the use?! No one's reading my posts anyhow!"), then I suppose you're too thin-skinned to participate on a traditional Catholic message board.

4 ignores is not that many. Just being a frequent poster on here will get you that many. The more you post, the more you are noticed -- and hence a greater chance to make enemies. If you're SSPX, many Sedes will ignore you. If you're Sede, then non-Sedes will ignore you.

I should also point out that people are curious -- people will still click "View" to read your posts, and then click "Hide" again when they're done. Many people can't resist. They leave the ignore on while they're offline to make a statement (to add to your ignore count, as a vote against you).

CathInfo has all types of (traditional) Catholics. So whatever type you are, there will be members who disagree with you -- quite vehemently in some cases. That's what makes CathInfo interesting and even fun. Variety is the spice of life.

I still insist that if I whittled the CathInfo membership down to "SSPX members" (a la Angelqueen), the remaining members would probably quit or post infrequently, out of boredom.

It's like the child who cries to have candy for dinner, even though he'd be crying later from a stomachache if I gave it to him. In that case, the child doesn't know what he asks for. Likewise, we all pray for things that aren't good for us, which God wisely and mercifully declines to grant.

Getting all upset -- "taking your ball and going home" -- because everyone here isn't a carbon copy of you, or best friend material, is childish at best.

Regarding your self-ban request, we don't do "emo", vanity threads or explosive exits around here. That was an old Fisheaters custom that didn't take off here, because CathInfo doesn't have an "Account Delete" function.

Why not just take a few days (weeks? months?) off. You'll probably want to come back eventually. Heck, I check out Fisheaters once in a while, and I have every reason to totally ignore that forum. I've been gone from there for over 3 years. Curiosity, if nothing else, gets you after a while.

Anyhow, you're always welcome here. Sorry if I was a bit harsh on you in my first paragraphs -- I'm speaking to everyone who has been -- or will be -- in your position, not just you.

    God bless,

    Matthew

As I see it, the strongest reason that one would write an ignore feature into a forum program would be to allow one to "flick the bird" in an 'orderly' fashion yet not, seemingly, break any rules.

Please put down the crack pipe, although I ask you to do so in as orderly a fashion as possible.

  • I never said "adieu" to Jehanne, so adieu, mon ami!  Stop NFP-ing!

I often have waves of rage over my ignore count -- so I will thank God for the opportunity to develop my patience.  But at this point I write mostly for lurkers.

I still think people are signing onto this site deliberately to put me on ignore, infiltrator types, because you are hearing the truth from me, folks.  You will not have the excuse before God that you didn't hear it -- sorry!
Readers: Please IGNORE all my postings here. I was a recent convert and fell into errors, even heresy for which hopefully my ignorance excuses. These include rejecting the "rhythm method," rejecting the idea of "implicit faith," and being brieflfy quasi-Jansenist. I also posted occasions of sins and links to occasions of sin, not understanding the concept much at the time, so do not follow my links.

  • Maybe that's why I'm going on ignore.  People want the excuse.

You aren't ignored because nobody finds your posts annoying or bothersome.  :dancing-banana:

Clicking the red HIDE button will add a poster to your ignore list. "Ignore" had too many letters to easily make a button, so Matthew went with "hide" instead.

  • How ironic -- Jehanne has 0 ignores now, but he left because of excessive ignores...

How silly to leave a good Catholic forum because of a forum feature -- something that makes the forum better.

I'm glad people are more used to the feature now -- how it works, what it means, etc.

After all, if Our Lord Himself were a member of CathInfo, I am almost positive He wouldn't have 0 ignores. His saints, who faithfully imitate Him, are often attacked as well. St. Anthony Mary Claret, a holy bishop, was almost αssαssιnαtҽd. And just look at all the countless Martyrs throughout Church history!

Not only is the Truth is a source of contradiction, human beings have a hard time figuring out the truth. Our intellects are flawed and can arrive at different conclusions, even with the same set of data.

    Also, humans are very emotional.

So getting 3 or 4 ignores out of hundreds of members should be considered par for the course, at least on a Traditional Catholic forum with lenient membership requirements such as CathInfo.

How odd. I am sort of looking forward to my first ignore. It's like a badge of honor.

Perhaps I should be more annoying and controversial. Have I mentioned that Benedict XVI is a usurper of the throne of the Vicar of Christ?

I may get banned for that.

You won't get banned for that. It's fine. And it's true.
