I must admit I love a good saying or proverb and I was just wondering of anyone else would like to share their favorites.

I'll start with a few of mine:

- A closed mouth gathers no foot!

- Profanity is the Art of Making Ignorance Audible.

- Tolerance is the virtue of the man without convictions.
G.K. Chesterton

- "Not to oppose erroneous doctrine is to approve of it, and not to defend all true doctrine is to suppress it." - Innocent III

- All that is neccesary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

- Abortion is to medicine what prostitution is to romance!

- "To one who has Faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without Faith, no explanation is possible." St. Thomas Aquinas

- If guns are responsible for crime then your pen is responsible for your spelling mistakes.

- Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.-- G.K. Chesterton

My father told me this, when we had relatives over from out of state once, and I was feeling a little annoyed (don't remember why):

Since I spent an entire semester listening to a seminar on Socrates it is only fitting that I provide his most famous quote.

And on a more humorous note....

"By all means marry; if you get a good wife, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher" ~ Also by Socrates.

Most of these are wise sayings that I have heard and there are a few new ones. I don't know who said these first, but here are my contributions:

Not to decide is to decide. (So much for claiming to be taking the "prudent course".)

There are two kinds of people in the world; those who divide things into two groups and those who don't.

and, its corollary,

There are ten kinds of people in the world; those who understand binary numbers and those who don't.
