Good news - wrongly imprisoned have been released

    • I improved the script I used to identify malicious visitors to my webserver.

    I now incorporate a WHITELIST: IP addresses from all past CathInfo posts. If an IP address was used to make a post on CathInfo (each post has an IP address that it came from), it is exempt from any future blocking. 

    This should put an end to false-positives affecting CathInfo members. 

    The theory is that malicious attackers aren't CI members in good standing, so they can't create posts. Ergo, they'll never get on the whitelist.

    • Every time you post, your CURRENT Internet address is stamped on that post. Some people have an IP that very much changes (dynamic IP, and/or they use a VPN). Others have a static IP that never changes.
    Either way, all CathInfo posts are now considered and all IP addresses collected, so that ANY of these addresses won't get "caught in the net" by mistake.

    While fishing for tuna (malicious attackers), I unfortunately caught quite a few dolphins (legit CathInfo members) in my net.

    My net now knows how to identify a CathInfo member, basically. I found a good way to do it.

    Yep, he got me with 20+ the other day. He must have felt a bit kinder that day since it was less than 50. His chief “virtues” are hate, revenge, and vindictiveness.  :laugh1:

    • I should point that all votes from banned members do NOT persist. The total votes by your name isn't updated when I run my script.
    However all the votes themselves are removed. So the calculation used by the forum software to protect you from downvotes -- the 12% figure -- comes from your ACTUAL votes, not phantom votes that no longer exist. I think that's the important part.

    Because the more downvotes you get, the more downvotes you CAN get, if you know what I mean.

    Long story short, a given member can only be 12% of another member's downvotes. If you attempt to be slightly more than 12%, the system prevents you from making the downvote. It's to protect against enemies and malicious voting.

    I know you’ve said this before, but my downvotes remain the same even after you ban him.

    • For the past few days , I can’t get into Cathinfo at all from my laptop again, although I can get in on my iPhone. The error message on all search engines is “ this site can’t be reached”. This is similar to what happened last month. Do you think it has something to do with your adjustments or do I have a crappy computer? No other site is affected
