  • Any good book suggestions for my pagan 16-year-old niece? E.g., on the life of a saint who died around her age?

I'm not sure if this would help, but there is a book called "The Valiant Woman."

It is by Msgr. Landriot. It is 224 pages.

It is a book on how to be a Catholic woman.

At this formative time in your niece's life, hopefully something like this could make the BIG difference, and be the

means by which God leads her to Himself.

    It seems an impressive book.

On Amazon it is $15 paperback or $30.55 Hardback.

It is available from Amazon, so if you buy it, remember to use the link at the top of this page when you start your

    Amazon session.

Then Matthew and his Family get credit for it!

  • The name of the book I've read for that age range escapes me at the moment, but in looking for it, I saw this which looks interesting.

Ablaze: Stories of Daring Teen Saints
"If I could only make the faithful sing the Kyrie, the Gloria, the Credo, the Sanctus and the Agnus Dei ... that would be to me the finest triumph sacred music could have, for it is in really taking part in the liturgy that the faithful will preserve their devotion. I would take the Tantum ...

    That reminds me of this:

    The Fascinating Girl

From the author of Fascinating Womanhood.

I think it talks a lot about how to find a good husband, so appropriateness would depend upon how much into "dating" and such your niece is at this age.

  • Also, Jitpring, because she is so young, she is perhaps not too old to appreciate some things written for children.

A beautifully coloured Life of Saint Margaret Mary might inspire her to a religious vocation.

I know that you said that she is pagan, but remember what happened to Saint Augustine when (after he had lost

the Faith) he heeded the miraculously spoken words "Tolle lege", and returned to God.

Perhaps a lovely full-colour life of Saint Margaret Mary of The Sacred Heart might touch her soul.

Also, she won't expect her Uncle to treat her like a grown-up.

Dear Mater, that one looks great!

It looks exactly the kind of book to inspire a 16 year-old.

Let's hope it causes  people of that age to see that there IS something fine and noble in being a traditional

    Catholic.

  • Mater, your second choice was not by a Catholic.  :surprised:

The Fascinating Girl is by a Mormon.

So it would be a really bad choice for Jitpring to give his niece.  :laugh1:

Don't worry, Mater...the first book that you recommended:

Ablaze: Stories of Daring Teen Saints

is hopefully the one that Jitpring will pick, if he goes for one of your selections!!!

  • After all, we wouldn't want her to end up as a pagan Mormon!!!   :laugh1: :laugh1: :laugh1:

  • So far it's looking like it'll be Ablaze. Will stand by for further suggestions....
