  • Our car insurance is now expired. Our car payment is past due, and while we got this latest payment deferred, the next one (which cannot be deferred) is due in 22 days.

My cell phone, which number is on all my job applications and resumes I've sent out, is now out of service.

I MUST go out each day and look for work, but if I am (God forbid) in an accident or get stopped for some reason, I will be fined heavily and could be arrested.

I have the opportunity to play music with a group that can play weddings and so on, but I have no instruments to play (I play the guitar and the harmonica, which is the more critical of the two, since there is paid work to be had if I have harmonicas to play).

We don't have any family members that would be willing or able to help. Our mortgage payment is taken care of, so there's no worry of losing our home, but we have literally nothing for bills or gas for the car.

Sorry I'm ranting, but if I didn't have young children to provide for, I wouldn't even be worried about these things because I could always get by alone. I'm desperate for their sakes.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

  • I'm very sorry to hear of your troubles, Stephen.  I'll pray for you and your family.  If I had any money myself, I would help you out.  But I'm in a world of hurt financially myself (though not nearly as bad off as you have it).  I'm flat broke.  And, just as you write, I wouldn't mind living on the street myself, but I feel bad for the kids.

I would recommend praying a novena to St. Jude, the Patron of Impossible Cases.

  • It looks like it. I had a suggestion.

    Matthew 5:37

But let your speech be yea, yea: no, no: and that which is over and above these, is of evil.

  • I've gotten PMs from people before. I have no idea why it wouldn't have worked.

    Any ideas?

Check your settings in Control Panel and make sure it's turned on.

  • It's in your Control Panel (strip of gray buttons at the top): do you want ppl to contact you via PM, email, etc.

I read some of your posts and see you're in the U.S. — sounds like applying for disability is a real possibility, especially with heart stuff going on. Maybe temporary disability can help you more immediately, too. I think there's other types of that kind of aide available (food stamps and so forth). Have you tried any of that?

And I don't know a lot about the program, but "free phones" are sort of part and parcel with government aid. They give you a phone and minutes and you could PROBABLY port your current phone number over to that.

22 days for your car... yeah, prayer. But I'd let the phone go (or get a free phone) before letting the car go, unless you're in an urban area where it costs a lot just to park your car.

  • Clark and Memento, I've PMed you both.

For some reason, my PM function WAS off. It's fixed now.

    Our car payment is $260.

A couple of notes on things people have suggested:

    1) We already do receive food stamps. We got them when I was only working part-time, then gave them up when I came into a very lucrative full-time job. We had to get them back when I lost that job unfairly and totally suddenly.

    2) I have applied for disability and been rejected because, in the words of the agent who handled my case, I should just "go get" (his words) a job where I don't have to stand for very long, or a job where I can sit at a computer all day. Sure... I should just GO GET a job in fields I have no past experience in, or a job I have no skill set for. Yes, in this economy, I should just "go get" one of these imaginary, hypothetical jobs.

Thank you all for praying... you will certainly be blessed by Our Lord for your kind concern and devotion to prayer.

Not for nothing, but we have found ourselves in similar situations, and usually God is working something better for us. We just have to push through the rough patch a bit.
Have faith and consider the lilies. Our prayers are with you.
