  • This is part of an exchange between several people, dealing with evolution:

    MikeO:

A Flood can't really be global and not "cover the Earth," then, if by Earth we mean the entire 24,000 mile circuмference of the planet.

So yes, pick your spot; deny the inerrancy of the Sacred Scriptures by holding to the Global Flood, which would be heresy, or admit the restrictive sense of "earth" and "life" in this case, which no pope since and including Venerable Pope Pius XII has any difficulty in reconciling with the Deposit of the Faith.

    My reply:

This is as far as I could get to reading. Believing in the global Flood is a heresy?!!!!!! Then all the Fathers of the Church were heretics! This can never be!! Please read the quotations I have put!! This is intolerable; I can't believe you had the audacity to say that! You say that if I believe in the Fathers' interpretation, I am a heretic? Absolutely absurd! I'd dare say that you don't know the meaning of heresy if you actually believe this! I think I say this for your own good: do not interpret the Bible according to your tastes; say what you will, but don't denigrate the traditional understanding at the least, to call it a heresy; when you do so, you arrogate to yourself authority which you don't have and insult the Fathers of the Church, especially when they are agreed on such an issue as the Global Flood.

I just had to post this, to show how much even traditional Catholics are deceived by modern science, even to the point of calling a traditional teaching a heresy!!

  • I take it we are talking about Noah.  You may have noticed that Vandeler was here to correct us.  Arrogate is a good word for this.

  • Yeah that's pretty bad.

Between the 'fountains of the deep' being burst, and the water canopy that likely covered the earth (pre-flood), there would be plenty of water to create the oceans we have today.

And since things would be different post-flood (less water vapor to block UV rays), men wouldn't be able to live as long, PLUS the air pressure would be different, which would not allow for creatures over a certain size (dinosaurs would be extinct) Huge creatures have to be underwater now.

Also, all the sediment that was eroded as the Fountains of the Deep were spurting air 2 miles into the atmosphere combined with the water, and helped to form the sludge that would fossilize so many creatures great and small, vertibrate and invertibrate.

Much of the water would have gone SO high into the air, it would have frozen and fallen to earth as ice crystals -- which caused the famous frozen wooly mammoths.

Every tribe and nation on earth has a "flood legend".

There is PLENTY of scientific evidence for the biblical flood. The Bible doesn't lie -- it happened.

Oh, and we know just where Noah's ark is, too -- just where the Bible said it was. Because of the political situation, we can't go in there, but it's been found (several times).
