Ghostly/demonic experiences

I was just curious to find out if anyone here has had any ghost experiences or demonic experiences in their life. By Ghosts, it is of course understood that these ghosts are demons appearing in human forms and not humans stuck in spirit on earth.

These are the experiences I have had:

-- When I was about 5 years old, my parents woke us up in the middle of the night because there was bombing near our house (we were in Lebanon at the time and there was a cινιℓ ωαr going on). We went to to my aunt's house where my sister and I were put to sleep in a room with a bunkbed. She got the top bed and I got the bottom. Anyway, when I put my head on the pillow to go to sleep, someone whispered in my ear (I couldn't detect what the words were but I could feel the warmth of the person's breath in my ear). I turned around and no one was there. My sister was in the top bunk so it was impossible for her to have whispered in my ear.

-- I lived in Alabama for 1 1/2 years where I had my own apartment. Many mornings, I would be awoken out of my sleep by the tugging of my comforter near by feet.

-- The first year after I converted back to God, from a life of sin, there were several instances where I would be woken up by a gentle shaking. But as soon as I woke, nothing was happening. After a while, I convinced myself that I was probably imagining the shaking. Well, one night, the same thing happened. But this time, as I lay wide awake, the shaking continued. I was lying in bed as my body was being gently shaken up and down. I was so terrified. I started saying the "Hail Mary" out loud and then, before I even finished the prayer,  the shaking stopped. After that particular incident, I never experienced the shaking again.

It's not bothering at all if you're in the state of grace. I remember how St. Vianney was visited by demons and even burnt his bed if I'm not mistaken.

As for me having ghostly/demonic experiences, nope, I haven't experienced that. I still get bad dreams but not enough for me to experience it. Thank God and the Blessed Mother for that!!! :incense:

What you describe, Magadalene, comes under the broader category in scientific terms of "sleep paralysis", which is attributed to a "gap" or delay between the mind waking and the body waking. In other words, you're still half asleep. We did an article on it in the magazine I run. While it explains the experiences for those who don't believe in the supernatural, I can't say I buy it. Fr. Gabriel Amorth tells us that demons are literally all around us and one would be foolish to think their influences extend only to vague mental temptations.

I've experienced similar to what you describe although it tends to be localized to a place rather than  me personally. In our home, we've frequently had our names whispered loudly enough to jolt us out of sleep and yet this didn't happen when I was living away from home. In my other house (student house) I experienced something really weird: I was asleep and suddenly woke to feel tiny cold hands, like those of a child, grabbing at my hands and holding them so I couldn't move. I managed to drag my hands up to my Rosary, which I always wear round my neck when I sleep. As soon as I touched the Rosary, the hands stopped and when I switched on the light, of course nothing was there. I was convinced that I had been awake and not dreaming. The following morning, I told one of my housemates "You'll never believe what happened to me last night" and he replied that he'd had almost exactly the same thing, except that he couldn't move at all.   The student house we lived in had lots of problems- doors would slam and open again while we were all together in one room, and when we'd check, it was as though they'd never moved. We heard footsteps on the roof as if someone was in the attic and several times I felt a strong "presence" behind me when I was on my own. Neither the paralysis nor the whispering have been experienced in other locations though. I suspect our student house needed a good blessing!

While one is in a state of grace, demons have no power over the soul, that is true. However, I don't blame anyone who gets freaked out by it incidents like these! Our nuns at school were terrified of "ghostly" experiences and couldn't bear to hear stories of demonic manifestations.

Wow! I am sorry Adesto that must have been really fighting! Good thing you sleep with your rosary! I do too, if it's not around my neck or  wrapped around my hand it's hanging on the back board of my bed right next to my head! Better be safe than sorry! :smirk:
