  • It's almost scary out there today.

We're having 36 MPH wind -- that's on the weather station, not at my house, where it's no doubt much worse. (We live on a hill among farmland -- no windbreaks for us)

I wish I had a wind gauge to measure it!

The wind is pretty constant; the gusts are approximately twice as strong.

You can feel the wind trying to push you around.

One neighbor's carport had the roof torn off -- you could see the roof pointing up towards the sky.

Winds are from the northwest, shifting almost to the southwest. VERY, very strange. Usually it's either North or South around here. Let's just say it's not a usual direction.

I don't usually have super-strong, cold, dry winds coming in my office window. We often have that kind of strong, cold, dry wind coming in the OTHER side of the house all the time, whenever a Northern cold front blows in (which is very, very normal for Texas)

We're set to have unseasonably cold weather all this week. About 10 degrees below normal. That much I have no problem with :)

  • Sounds bad. Stay safe.

Winds about that strong -- maybe worse -- once hit an area about 15 min. away from me. Several people lost some roof shingles and a few large trees were knocked down. I lost power from that storm, but didn't get the high winds.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

Make sure to check out the image gallery at the bottom!

Remember, I'm east of San Antonio, out in the country surrounded by flat farmland, so there are no windbreaks. I'm also on a hill of sorts, so we get 50% more wind than your average city dweller at any given time.

  • Just spoke to a friend in Laredo - said it's like the dust bowl down there too.

  • Living on a basin in the West, 36 mph winds are routine. I guess it is scary though if you are not used to it.

  • I'm north of Houston today, winds are about 25mph but with *lots* of windbreak (trees etc), I can't imagine what it would be like if it were open prairie around here.

  • The weather in Texas is so abnormal...no wonder the people are crazy. One day it's sweltering, the next it's freezing. Then when there is fog and clouds outside it's really hot and humid, then a few hours later it's all clear and sunny yet cold. The rain is unpredictable. If you forget an umbrella one day and it happens to rain, bringing your umbrella the next day won't even help because there won't be a cloud in the sky.

I can't even tell what season we are in - is this spring or winter? I don't even really recall having a real "winter" - just a cloudy day here and there and a few isolated mornings when it rained so hard it sounded like the sky was falling. This constant fluctuation between hot/cold, humid/dry is making me feel like the yin-yang balance in my body is being thrown off balance and putting me into weird moods. I walk outside sometimes and feel like I'm wading my way through some tropical miasma.

The iffiness of this weather has me dying for summer. But then of course summers are even more unbearable.

Hopefully at least there will be a cool breeze now and then to stir up some nostalgia on a lazy summer day....
