  • I used to have respect for Arch Bishop fulton sheen, until I saw this.
Watch what he says about John 23 visiting a prison at the end.

  • The pope told the prisoner that all have sinned and come short of the glory of God, It sounds like your problem is with St. Paul, not Archbishop Sheen or Pope John.
Stir up within Thy Church, we beseech Thee, O Lord, the Spirit with which blessed Josaphat, Thy Martyr and Bishop, was filled, when he laid down his life for his sheep: so that, through his intercession, we too may be moved and strengthen by the same Spir

  • I'm curious as to what you object to.  Is it the fact the fact that John XXIII visited a prison, the fact that the archbishop recognized John XXIII as a legitimate pope, or something else?

St. Paul preached a merciful God? I don't know who this St. Paul guy is but he's probably some Vatican II heretic and we outta take him and...  :heretic:

In all seriousness, that was a very beautiful story. The next time we see a man like Jeffrey Dahmer we have to remember, if he had the same graces we had he might have become one of the greatest saints in the history of the Church. If we received the graces he received we might have committed even worse crimes against nature and humanity.

John XXIII was a confessor.  He must have heard a lot of wives confessing
the things they've done to their husbands, for him to think that if he had been
married he might have murdered his wife, too.

Look out for Venetian women!  :fryingpan:

I think the point John XXIII was trying to make is that all mankind, from the pope down to the most hardened criminal, are part of God's creation, and we all have a fallen nature.  Every human, with God's grace, is capable of doing good, and every human, when he turns his back on God, is capable of great evil.

  • Hopefully he was not excusing sin.  But saying go and sin no more.

I have never said aught against Thee. Nor do I persist stubbornly in my views. • Well maybe I misunderstood that he seemed to dismiss the sin of killing his wife. But another thing, sheen also praised John 23, and showed himself to be a charismatic liberal unwilling to admit the dangers of the council.

I think you are familiar with the legacy of John XXIII...

I didn't view the clip but is it the one where Bishop Sheen (who did receive the list of over a 1,000 communist infiltrators into the Church and did exactly what? with it????) is fawning like a lovestruck teenager over the pope who will fundamentally transform the Holy Church established by Our Lord?

What kind of vainglorious ghoul thinks he can improve the works of Our Lord?  None other than John XXIII, Paul VI and the Vatican Two-eees!

  • I didn't see the clip either.  I was speaking in code in my previous post, just kind of putting out there that maybe he was excusing sin, you know, in the new Catholic way.  Boys will be boys after all.

But I have no idea and am biased.  "But chances are . . .

Absolutely not.  That was my point.  Hopefully we was NOT excusing sin.  BUT saying go and sin no more.  He didn't say to Mary Magdalen "It's cool don't worry about it."  He said "Go and sin no more."  The modernists think of Jesus as a Santa Claus type guy that does say "It's cool don't worry about it."  He is only harsh on real evil people like Hitler or Stalin.  With the rest of us it's a boys will be boys mentality.  Nice friendly Jesus who eliminates justice because of His "mercy".

I believe Bishop Sheen changed, more or less, with the institution he was stuck in.  He was very likeable so that could be considered  :heretic:

Not because it is incorrect but because, well, people, including me, like him.

A good clergyman does not equal friendly or nice though a good clergyman can be both without crossing a line.  A good clergyman equals orthodox, solid, penitential, Eucharistic, Marian, prayer and fasting, lover of God, Church, himself and the souls in his care.
