  • I can't believe how much willpower it took me today to NOT turn on the air conditioning!

    November 2nd!

It was 86 degrees with high humidity -- a few degrees from the all-time high (again!) It was miserable in our house for a few hours. We're supposed to be getting a cold front tonight, but until it gets here, it feels like good old September!

I wish I had a dime for every time we tied a record, or came within a degree or two of the record. Something is going on, the only question is: what?

  • Yeah, last weekend we had snow; it was nasty and freaky--it frightened most people for some reason.

Matthew I'd rather bundle up and stay warm than boil like that.  A major mortification not using the AC (the most glorious modern invention IMO)

  • The Missouri River near Saint Louis is so low that large islands in the middle of the channel are showing. I've never seen the river this low.

  • The high hovers around 70 where I live. The nights are pretty cold though, the last two weeks it's dipped into the 30s atleast 5 times.
Please ignore ALL of my posts. I was naive during my time posting on this forum and didn’t know any better. I retract and deeply regret any and all uncharitable or erroneous statements I ever made here.

Hi Elizabeth, that's a good question. I have not heard dams currently causing low river levels here but that might be the case. I do know this area has not had much rain in a long time, except for Thursday. Also, I just learned the Mark Twain National Forest had a wild fire earlier, but to my disappointment, the source did not specify the location nor the severity. The MTNF is fairly vast in the southern part of Missouri. The severity must be of some concern because they called in a special firefighting unit from one of the Carolina states. Anyway, as far as the river goes, I will be able to view it again Friday because I ride my bike by there a lot. My friend will be there, too, so I'll ask him if he has heard anything about the dams having an effect on the river level.

  • Freak weather?  Lemme recap the Oklahoma year of 2011 for ya:

--early year blizzards that broke records

--this Spring, Joplin was destroyed by a giant tornado

--heat waves that broke records (I think it was Tulsa's hottest year in history)

    --drought, drought, drought

--an Indian Summer (aka, hot/mild fall)

--a 5.6 earthquake hit yesterday--biggest in Oklahoma history
    .........................
