Title: Fr. William Griglak (aka Nancy Ledins) dies
Post by: Incredulous on July 28, 2017, 04:25:34 PM
No doubt, Father is feeling the heat now.

Her life was not an easy journey. Not long after her operation became news in 1979, Ayers said, she was shot at, had her car bombed and was sent dead animals in the mail. But Ledins eventually found peace.

Finally embracing the person, the woman, she’d always felt like inside rescued her from the depression that had tormented her for years, Ayers said. “For the first time in my life, I am running into and not from. What a healthy feeling!” she wrote in a letter to her parents in 1978, as she was beginning her gender transition. “I am now very very glad to be alive. ... My bucket of tears (and there were many) are over. The sunshine is real.”

And in the last five years of her life, Ledins found new purpose as an active member at Wedgewood, a Charlotte church of about 60 worshipers – half of whom are gαy, lesbian or transgender – that is affiliated with the American Baptists Churches USA and the United Church of Christ.

At this small but welcoming and diverse house of worship, Ayers said, she “preached, served the Eucharist, baptized children, anointed congregants with oil, sang benedictions in Latin ... and, most importantly, changed us and the world through her incredible life and ministry.”  In a Monday blog post headlined “Goodbye, Nancy,” Wedgewood member Maddison Wood recalled the first time she attended one of the church’s Sunday services.

“I’m pretty sure I audibly gasped when Reverend Doctor Nancy Ledins took the pulpit,” Wood wrote. “The reason why I was in awe that day is because I had never seen an old transgender person. In her 80s, living her best life, being trans. In the lines on Nancy's face, I found hope. I looked at her and felt content, like everything was going to be OK. She was transgender, came out as transgender in the 1970s, and she had lived – not just survived, but lived – to old age.”

Still a priest?
According to a timeline provided by Wedgewood Church, Ledins was a native of Cleveland, Ohio. As a priest with the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, a Catholic religious order, Father William served in a parish in Detroit, went to Vietnam as an Army chaplain, and worked as a pastor and psychologist in Colorado.

Looks like the freak was one of the queer pioneers. Sickening.

Do I understand this obituary correctly that this person was a man who was ordained a Catholic priest and at some point in the 70s decided he was "actually a woman" and had surgery to mutilate himself so he could pretend to be a woman?

The article doesn't say whether he was defrocked or not. As perverse as he was, including the self-mutilation, I guess he was still a valid priest. Scary. I would NOT want to be in his shoes right now.

Good observation Stubborn.

And the "Priestly Queer Pioneer" merits a separate topic.

May his soul and the souls of all teh faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.

He is nowhere NEAR one of the faithful departed... he may be the biggest affront to His Holy Priesthood to ever exist.

One correction Poche:

It's "her" soul.

 :jester:
Even with the "operation" he is still a he.

Poche,

It seems you're victim of modern sentimentalism by wanting to pray for a non faithful departed.

William crossed the line when he sinned against his God-given nature by becoming Nancy.

It is one of the sins crying to Heaven for vengeance.

He did so publicly, as an ex Catholic priest, shaming his priesthood.  He was never know to have repented.

We know, through St. Bonaventure, that all the ɧoɱosɛҳųαƖs in the world, alive on the night Our Lord's birth, were put to death by God.

Sermon XXII by St. Bonaventure

Subject: Sermon of Br. Bonaventure addressed to
the people of Lyon on the Nativity of the Lord.

Bless, O my soul, the Lord who liberated Jerusalem, His city, from its many tribulations, He the Lord our God. Confess the Lord, O children of Israel, for He has shown His majesty to a sinful nation. (Tobias 13:19/3/7)

Moved by a great devotion of heart for today’s celebration, the soul of each one of the faithful should bless and confess God for His great works, exalting the men of Israel and the elect of Jerusalem ,as seen in the 24 considerations of the meditation on today’s feast set forth briefly in the Gospel of Christmas Eve. Four considerations are on God the Father, four on God the Son, four on the Blessed Mother, four on Joseph, four on the Shepherds and four on the Angels.

We should consider and bless God the Father for His most admirable liberality in sending His Son to take flesh and be born; and praise His fidelity for fulfilling His promise in the due time, His ineffable charity because He had compassion on us and was thus pleased to help us, and His eternal goodness because He wanted to make himself known to us in this way.

Regarding the Son being born, we should consider and bless His admirable and dignified benignity, imitate His promptitude in obeying the Father and His pity and incredible clemency toward us, and appreciate His submissive poverty, humility and simplicity.

As for the Mother who gave birth, we should consider and bless her immaculate virginity and glorious fecundity, the singularity of her delivery and the generosity of her fortunate and joyful childbirth.

On the part of Joseph, we should consider and bless his profound reverence, enormous justice, dedicated compliance and indefectible charity.

On the part of the Shepherds, we should consider and bless their holy simplicity, pious joyfulness, praiseful solicitude and their expanding faith and devotion.

On the part of the Angels, we should consider and bless the clarity of their omnipresent grandeur, the intimacy of their new tenderness, the learnedness of their preaching and the purity and sublimity of their new praises.

In all these meditations our souls should bless God, on this day.

On this day, He liberated His city showing His majesty to a sinful nation, not only by sending His Son to be born, but by bedecking and adorning the day, hour and time of His Nativity with miracles.

The miracles shown to the sinful nation at the time of the Nativity of Christ are these, according to various histories. (1)

First, a fulgent star appeared in the sky in parts of the East, which displayed the form of a most pure Infant, and over it was a shining cross to signify that He who was born would spread His doctrine, life and death throughout the whole world.

Second, in the middle of the day from Capitoline Hill in Rome, a golden circle that appeared near the sun was seen – [also] by the Emperor and the Sibyl – and in it was a most pure Virgin giving birth to an Infant, signifying that He who was born was the Monarch of the world and came to demonstrate the splendor of the paternal glory and figure of His substance. (2)

Third, the temple of peace in Rome fell to the ground. When it was built, the devils were asked how long it would last, and they responded that it would stand until a Virgin gave birth to a Son, as a sign that He who was born would destroy the works and practices of vanity.

Fourth, in Rome a large gush of oil sprung up from the ground and flowed into the Tiber, to show that a source of piety and mercy had been born.

Fifth, on the night of the Nativity, the vinae Engaddi, from which perfume is made, sprouted, flourished, extended its branches and produced its scented liquid, to show that He who was born would make the spiritual world flourish, grow and give fruits, and that its fragrance would attract the whole world.

Sixth, 30,000 criminals were killed by the Emperor, to show that He who was born would subject the whole world by His Faith and that the rebels would be lost in Hell.

Seventh, all the sodomites in the whole world died, both male and female, according to Jerome (3) commenting on the Psalm: The light was born for the just, which shows that He who was born came to reform nature and to promote chastity.

Eighth, brute animals spoke in Judea, among them, two oxen, to make us understand that He who was born would transform the most bestial men into rational persons.

Ninth, all the idols of Egypt were destroyed when the Virgin gave birth; according to Jeremiah (4) that sign was given to the Egyptians to make them understand that He who was born was the true God and the only One worthy of adoration with the Father and the Holy Spirit.

Tenth, when the Infant was laying in the Manger, the ox and donkey knelt before Him, as if they had reason, and adored Him, which makes us understand that He who was born would call both the Jєωs and the Gentiles to His religion.

Eleventh, the whole world was in peace as described, (5) to show that He who was born would love and promote universal peace and that His elect would enjoy eternal peace.

Twelfth, in the East three suns appeared in the sky, which progressively merged into a single celestial body to show that by the birth of Christ the world would be informed of the Triune God, and that Divinity, spirit and flesh had been united in one Person.

About all these things, our souls should bless God and venerate Him because He liberated us and His majesty was shown to us, a sinful nation.

The Lord Jesus was born in the 5,199th year after the constitution of the world, after the constitution of the 750 gens of the City [of Rome], in the year of the 194th Olympics, in the 42nd year of Emperor Octavianus Augustus, in the 39th year of the reign of Herod of Ascalon in Judea, on the 8th day of the Kalendas of January, having Cyrenius as governor of Syria.

I understand and recognize that this persons life was objectively evil. There is no excuse for much of how he lived his life. However who among us can see into the secret interior of the human heart. There is the possibility that towards the end of his life that this person had sorrow for his sins and made an act of perfect contrition. Ther is the possibility that he could be in Purgatory right now sighing for our prayers. The judge when he sentences the most hardened criminal to death says at the end of the sentence, "And may god have mercy on your soul." One of the works of mercy is to pray for the dead. One day, maybe sooner than we think we too will have to stand before the judge and answer for our own lives. Many of the posters here on Cathinfo will be in Purgatory saying, "Oh if only somebody would just say a prayer for me." Jesus said, "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." I am only trying to do as Jesus said. Won't you at least say an Ave Maria for the souls in Purgatory.

Poche,

Of course we pray for all the Poor Souls in Purgatory.

If Nancy made a perfect Act of Contrition and got into Purgatory, he'll get the benefits from our general prayers.

But this brings up a good point.  We can pray for anything.
National Geographic magazine promotes the idea that Judas was not such a bad guy.
Do when then pray that the flames of Hell are not so severe for Judas?  No.

What was in the hearts of the dying, we cannot read.  It is all very theoretical.

But praying for unrepentant, public sinners, seems inappropriate.

Ask yourself, why are Catholics who commit ѕυιcιdє traditionally kept from being buried in a Catholic Cemetery?

It is because they have excluded themselves from the Arc of Holy Mother Church.

This may seem cruel to our modern society, indoctrinated in Judaic тαℓмυdism, but it a harsh reality of our Catholic Faith.

yes, i agree. And the ironic thing is that the damned KNOW they are  damned (or at least highly suspect it, I am sure), while the sentimentalists as you call them "know" something different, but of course some knowledge is merely subjective and therefore not true knowleldge. In other words, you can believe something b/c you want to believe it but that does not make it true. Who wants to believe people go to a place of torment from which they can never escape? It is hard to believe but it is a common trait in human nature to believe what we want to believe. Very dangerous, that...

What we know about the condition of this person's soul we know by conjecture. He could very likely be in Hell. But then again he could be in Purgatory. We don't know for sure. If he is in Hell tehnit is a waste of time to pray for his soul. If he is in Purgatory then our prayers can help him. If he is in Hell and we pray for him then God will not allow our pryaers to go to waste.

Yes, hopefully a Catholic friend was able to get a priest to Fr. Griglak to give him last rites.  Poor soul.

Okay Poche,

Your point is Hope.

I don't have the reference for this, but I recall reading, that when we pray for someone who is actually in Hell, the lost soul's torments are increased.

My point is Justice.

It seems rather "Novus ordo glib" to label an apostate transgender priest as "faithful departed".

And the Epistle Of Saint Paul To The Romans, taught us the mechanism for Father Griglak's terrible condition:

[17] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=17-#x) For the justice of God is revealed therein, from faith unto faith, as it is written: The just man liveth by faith.

[18] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=18-#x) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and injustice of those men that detain the truth of God in injustice:

[19] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=19-#x) Because that which is known of God is manifest in them. For God hath manifested it unto them.

[20] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=20-#x) For the invisible things of him, from the creation of the world, are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made; his eternal power also, and divinity: so that they are inexcusable.

[21] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=21-#x) Because that, when they knew God, they have not glorified him as God, or given thanks; but became vain in their thoughts, and their foolish heart was darkened.

[22] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=22-#x) For professing themselves to be wise, they became fools.

[23] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=23-#x) And they changed the glory of the incorruptible God into the likeness of the image of a corruptible man, and of birds, and of
fourfooted beasts, and of creeping things.

[24] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=24-#x) Wherefore God gave them up to the desires of their heart, unto uncleanness, to dishonour their own bodies among themselves.

[25] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=25-#x) Who changed the truth of God into a lie; and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

[26] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=26-#x) For this cause God delivered them up to shameful affections. For their women have changed the natural use into that use which is
       against nature.

[27] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=27-#x) And, in like manner, the men also, leaving the natural use of the women, have burned in their lusts one towards another, men with men working that which is filthy, and receiving in themselves the recompense which was due to their error. (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=27-27&q=1#x)

[28] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=28-#x) And as they liked not to have God in their knowledge, God delivered them up to a reprobate sense, to do those things which are
        not convenient;

[29] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=29-#x) Being filled with all iniquity, malice, fornication, avarice, wickedness, full of envy, murder, contention, deceit, malignity, whisperers,

[30] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=30-#x) Detractors, hateful to God, contumelious, proud, haughty, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

[31] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=31-#x) Foolish, dissolute, without affection, without fidelity, without mercy.

[32] (http://www.drbo.org/x/d?b=drl&bk=52&ch=1&l=32-#x) Who, having known the justice of God, did not understand that they who do such things, are worthy of death; and not only they that do them, but they also that consent to them that do them.

i hardly ever pray for the souls in Purgatory anymore. They are safe. It is the sinners on the way to Hell we should pray for and offer sufferings for, IMO.

This brings up an interesting question that Catholis should discuss, is it fine to pray for the unfaithful departed?

This is my understanding and please correct me if you can show that I am wrong:

Anyone who has died outside the Church, like the priest in this pathetically sad case, CANNOT have an ecclesiastical burrial and is ASSUMED to have died outside the Church. (This is also assuming that he was not reconciled with the Church by a true priest before he died) However, we don't know what happened at the moment of his death and whether he made an act of perfect contrition.

Praying for him as one of the faithful departed is wrong, however, it seems to me, we can say some prayers for the repose of his soul on the slim chance that he did in fact make an act of perfect contrition before he died and left this world in the state of sanctifying grace. Those prayers would not be waisted if he ultimately went to hell since they would be applied to the pour souls in purgatory.

That is something to discuss with your priest.  I see the Church having a line drawn in the sand.  Live outside the teachings and you are out.  There is nothing wrong for praying for the souls of the faithfully departed, or the repose of the souls in purgatory.  I do see it as wrong as praying directly for the salvation of a soul that died outside the Church.  Much the same way it would be to pray for the salvation of a Lutheran and (you personally) hoping they wanted to convert to Catholicism in their last five minutes of life.  There is little room for sentimentalism in the teachings of the Church.

You make a fair case on the surface, however it seems to me that the problem with this line of reasoning is the fact that you need to reconcile the case of a catechumen who dies before baptism and is in fact NOT a member of the Church, but the Church allows him an ecclesiastical burial as if he died a member of the Church.
I'm not saying that you are absolutely wrong, I just would like you to give quotes from a reliable theologian that supports your case.

The principle is, regardless of how things are coram deo, is that people are to be consisdered to have died AS THEY LIVED. People who fall into sentimentality aren't considering souls not yet subjected to the Eschaton. No acanthus, no acacia, that's it.

Goes with the territory of being a heretic,  apostate, schismatic etc.

"The soul is the form of the body" I wrote that; no, really…

Better wear eye-pro in the heretical hereafter, because there's gonna be alot of odd bits flying about…

"Problematic" is an understatement.

I was thinking, they're going to need a revised version of one article for the Newcreed:
.
I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy Catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the amorphous body and life everlasting.

The origin of hte Gregorian 30 day masses involves Pope St. Gregory praying for an excommunicated monk. His excommunication was not lifted while he lived. While we may conjecture about Fr. Griglak, and we may be right we could also be wrong. I think it is better to err in favor of praying for the souls in Purgatory.

Are you going to pony-up the stipend for Nancy's 30 Masses ?

The traditional rate is "A stipend and a half"  (30 Mases x $20 = $600 + $300 = $900).

If Nancy didn't make it, the Divine economy allows for those Mass graces to go to other souls in Purgatory.

You can't lose.

Maybe Poche would like to get the cut rate Novus Ordo at only $240 seen at https://www.seraphicmass.org/gregorian_masses.asp (https://www.seraphicmass.org/gregorian_masses.asp)

According to the account given at this linked article the monk in question, Justus, actually made a "serious repentance" before he died.  Further, there is no specific mention that the monk was actually excommunicated, although he was ordered to solitary confinement.

Okay, okay... he was excommunicated.

How likely was he to get out of that?

It took St. Pope Gregory to lift the excommunication, and the 30 consecutive Masses to get him into Heaven.

Did Francis do anything similar for Nancy ?

If he did I am unaware of it. I just want to remind you that we will all one day have to meet our maker. How will we pass the judgement? If we get what we deserved we might wind up in Hell. If we take advantage of the mercy that Jesus offers to us by going to mass and recieving the sacrements regularly tehn maybe we will escape the fires of Hell, but will we escape the fires of Purgatory? We could be sitting in Purgatory saying to ourselves, "Oh if only somebody would pray for me."
Even when the judge condemns a man to death for a horrible crime he traditioinally ends his sentence by saying , "And may God have mercy on your soul."

Poche, I agree with you.

But, St. Paul tells us the first sin is apostasy of the Faith, then the sinner is allowed to fall into perversions.

There needs to be the scary, sobering recognition of those who unwittingly allowed themselves to loose their minds.

We are too liberal and soft.

The Romeo & Juliet play is a good example.
At the time it was written, Catholics knew the damning implications of their joint ѕυιcιdєs.
But modern standards have made the story line romantic, without consequences.

The theology of Poche believes that Saints and unrepentant sinners both will all be in heaven.

No, the theology of Poche means that unless we have some kind of private revelation, we do not know teh final disposition of anybody's soul. Therefore I pray for the repose of those who have died, that God will give me a merciful judgement when I die. And if I have to spend time in Purgatory that it will be very short.

Poche,

Based on the following TIA story, I concede to your point.

Stories & Legends

Considered Beyond Hope,
An Old Woman Is Saved
St. Alphonsus Liguori
We read in the life of Sister Catherine, an Augustinian nun, that in the place where she lived, there lived also a woman named Mary, who in her youth was a sinner and obstinately continued in her evil ways, even to extreme old age.

(http://www.traditioninaction.org/religious/images_F-J/H145_woman.jpg)A woman appears asking for prayers and Masses

For this she was banished by her fellow-citizens, forced to live in a cave beyond the borders of the town and died in a state of loathsome corruption, abandoned by all and without the Sacraments. On this account she was buried in a field, like a beast.

Now Sister Catherine, who was accustomed to recommend very affectionately to God the souls of those who had departed this life, after learning of the miserable death of this poor old woman, did not think of praying for her, as she and everyone else believed her already among the damned.

Four years having past, a soul from Purgatory one day appeared to her and said: “Sister Catherine, how unhappy is my fate! You commend to God the souls of all those who die and for my soul alone you have had no pity.”

“And who are you?” said the servant of God.

She answered: “I am that poor Mary who died in the cave.”

“What! Are you saved?” exclaimed Sister Catherine.

“Yes, I am saved,” she said, “by the mercy of the Virgin Mary!”

“And how?”

(http://www.traditioninaction.org/religious/images_F-J/H145_Mercy.jpg)Our Lady, refuge of even the most abandoned souls

“When I saw death drawing near, finding myself laden with sins and abandoned by all, I turned to the Mother of God and said to her: 'Lady, thou art the refuge of the abandoned. Behold me at this hour deserted by all. Thou art my only hope, thou alone canst help me; have pity on me.'

“The Holy Virgin obtained for me the grace of making an Act of Contrition. I died and am saved, and my Queen has also obtained for me the grace that my pains should be abridged and that I should, by suffering intensely for a short time, pass through that purification, which otherwise would have lasted many years.

"A few Masses only are needed to obtain my release from Purgatory. I pray thee to have them offered for me, and I promise to pray God and Mary for thee.”

Sister Catherine immediately caused those Masses to be said for her, and that soul, after a few days, appeared to her again, more brilliant than the sun. She said to her: “I thank thee, sister Catherine: behold I am now going to paradise to sing the mercy of God and pray for thee.”

There is a related story that carried into more modern times. In 1871 there  was an atheist who emmigrated to Brazil from France. He had a wife and two daughters. His wife wanted to take the daughters to church but the husband refused. One day he went to open his pharmacy liek he always did every morning and he dropped dead. His wife sold the pharmacy and returned to France. She brought her daughters to church and one of them entered the convent. This particular convent sent her to America. It was in 1932 in New Jersey that this sister was at mass when she heard the following words; "REjoice and be glad. Today is the day that your father enters Heaven. Great is the mercy of God."
YOu see every day at every mass she prayed for the eternal repose of her father.
