  • San Antonio Traditional Catholics rejoice!

    http://www.StDominicsChapel.com

Fr. Trinh will be saying Mass at my independent chapel outside San Antonio this Saturday, Oct 4th at 5:00 PM. Confessions will be available 30 min. before Mass.

Fr. Trinh is more of an independent priest than a Resistance priest, though I understand he was speaking with Fr. Pfeiffer about taking care of my area. Maybe because Fr. Pfeiffer knows that his own group will never be able to handle an additional chapel (at least another chapel in Texas) for several years?

Anyhow, I don't know a lot about him, but I do gather that he's a solid Traditional priest -- and not interested in playing footsie with Modernist Rome. He visited my SSPX chapel 5 years ago or so, so I have seen him in person.

He currently offers the Tridentine Mass in Lampasas, and Copperas Cove, TX.

As far as his "politics", here is what he responded:

    Quote from: Fr. Trinh
I will bring the pre-1955 large Missal as Fr Ringrose taught me.
I pray three prayers for semi double class Sunday/other days when applied, instead of one as the 1962.
I do not hold the position that the 1962 is intrinsic wrong, and I am aware that CMRI followed a changed liturgy as the Holy Pope Pius XII allowed.

So any Traditional Catholics in my area waiting for a Pre-1962 Tridentine Mass, come on out! PM or e-mail me for details. matthew@cathinfo.com

If you know any Traditional Catholics in my area, PLEASE pass this along. I only have contact with a limited number of Trad Catholics that *recently* went to the San Antonio SSPX chapel, and only in this limited part of Texas. I'm sure there are others home-alone, etc. who would love to come to Masses said by Fr. Trinh.

If you have any suggestions how I might get the word out, I'm open for advice. Maybe Traditio's directory? I can't rely solely on InThisSignYouShallConquer, as that is for Resistance-only. I'm looking more for a directory of independent chapels.

  • Traditio is always efficient when solicited for additions or changes.
WikiMissa is another source to post on, but I don't know their traffic.

    As briefly as possible:
I came as a dyed in the wool novus ordite to tradition via an independent chapel and attended that chapel for 10 years.  We had never attended an SSPX Mass.  We moved to SoCal and the closest Tridentine rite Mass was an SSPX mission, and Fr. Trinh was the visiting priest each Sunday. The only preconceived notion I had about the Society was hearing that they were "strict".  Father's sermons were at least as vigorous as those of the priest at our old independent chapel.  I found his subject matter courageous and he was a good confessor.  He is serious as a heart attack about Fɾҽҽmαsσɳɾყ and used to speak frankly about it.

One Sunday, he was no longer there.  Just like that.  The incoming visiting SSPX priests would not give us one word about why he left.  (This was 2011 I believe, perhaps later 2010)  People were very concerned about his health and welfare, thinking he had a serious illness or something.  Again, we were completely ignorant of the SSPX and their changing politics, we were not SSPX'ers per se, but we noticed a distinct difference in sermons after he left. He was much more direct and 'in your face' about the state of the Church.  We left SoCal shortly after this incident due to job transfer, but for years afterward he was kept in our prayers, never knowing what happened.

I remember when we first started attending that mission, that a woman complained about the length of Fr. Trinh's sermons (approx 20 - 30 min).  I was astounded that she was ungrateful for excellent instruction, then started to better understand, after a few years of attending SSPX Masses, the term "neo trad".

  • I was under the impression that he now embraces sedevacantism.

This was a very short notice visit, so the turnout wasn't great.

However, we're looking at a record turnout next Sunday for Fr. Voigt's Mass (based on the R.S.V.P's I've received so far)

  • So do you anticipate that this priest's visits will become a regular event?

The future is still being written, so I'm not sure actually.

Both Fr. Voigt and Fr. Trinh hope it will be a regular event at this point.
