Strangely enough, nothing extraordinary happened. Father Rostand said Mass at my chapel today. I expected him to speak out against the resistance. He did not. His sermon was ordinary but fine, though his English was not that good. He was very nice. He mentioned that he was at the ordinations in Winona and he asked us to pray for the twelve new priests. He went to the airport after Mass. That's about it.
Why do CI folks expect Fr. Rostand to be "not nice?" I've met him twice and also found him a pleasant person. Of course, I gave him no reason to be mean or unreasonable. The problem is not whether this priest or that priest has a pleasing personality. The issue is one of dogma. The most charming priest in the world can be a heretic. Conversely, a priest can be grumpy, stand-offish, and lacking in social graces but hold to the Eternal Faith. From whom do you want to receive the Sacraments?
Ideally, all priests would be pleasant and hold to sound doctrine. But that's not reality. We lay-folk can choose our priests, but our priests don't have that option. By virtue of their priesthood, they have to put up with us--and there are a lot more of us than of them! So, yes, pray for the 12 new priests, pray for Fr. Rostand, pray for the priests of the Resistance. When it comes down to it, we all have a soul to save, a soul for which Jesus Christ suffered and died.
