Four boys ages 9 to 14 have been charged with sɛҳuąƖly assaulting an 8-year old girl, police in Phoenix, Arizona, said Wednesday.

The girl was lured into a vacant storage shed by the suspects, who offered her chewing gum, police said at a news conference.

The girl was restrained while the boys -- ages 9, 10, 13 and 14 -- sɛҳuąƖly assaulted her, police said of the July 16 incident.

All the suspects except for the 14-year-old live in the same apartment complex, according to Phoenix police Sgt. Andy Hill. The 14-year-old has been charged as an adult, Hill said.

Detectives said the girl was placed in the custody of Phoenix child protective services after the attack because of her parents' attitude toward her.

The girl and the boys charged are all from families that have come to the United States from the West African nation of Liberia, police said.

Just got me thinking, that's all.

There are only two possibilities here:

1. Blacks, for some reason, are ending up in prison at a rate 6.5X that of white males because they are more predisposed to crime (culture? religion? temperament? you tell me)

2. The white man is tryin' to keep the black man DOWN!

I seriously doubt #2, considering it's a national phenomena. It's like the mother defending her criminal son, "The police just have something against my poor Joe." Doubtful. The police just do their job, most of the time.

So, from the very beginning of their coming to the U.S., black children grew up with no fathers because their father was sold off to another master. This is why black women came to be strong - to be both a father and mother to their children. If a family has no father in the picture, then the children will tend to grow up to be messed up. It's became a vicious cycle.

In addition to the fact that, because of racism and segration, black mails didn't have much economic opportunity after slavery and so turned to crime and ended up in jail.

Also, the fact that the CIA was sending drugs to black inner city neighborhoods so that black men would be dealers. A lot of black men are in jail because of drug dealing and/or murder related to drug deals.

The KKK were against Catholics, immigrants, AND blacks (among others they hated). The only race/religion that the KKK & know-nothings liked was fellow WASPs: American protestants who came over from England several decades ago.

And Irish men had to leave their families to go Europe -- even to America! to make money to send back home. Plenty of songs were written about this. I'm sure it caused problems in those families as well.

The belief that poverty causes crime has no basis in fact. I strongly disagree with that. That belief is an offense to every honest poor person that ever lived -- including the Holy Family.

All I'm saying is that this must be acknowledged. I'm not saying anything else.

I have to say this, because I've been on message boards long enough to know how people can misunderstand you. Yes, it appears I'm countering a defense of black people, but please don't put any words in my mouth.

Roscoe, even if that were true, what good does getting angry do?

You should consider where she lives (California) and consider that no fish swims in black ink for years on end and stays bright orange.

From what I've seen and read, Alex is a good Catholic and a fine member of this board.

We should help and pray for each other, and not attack each other more often than not.

Liberalism and other errors, when they are widespread, tend to soak into the best of us. It's very difficult to be completely un-affected by the world around you.

The Irish weren't as badly treated as the blacks - the blacks were treated like non-humans. Furthermore, Irish families still consisted of parents being together. And if the father left to Europe or America, his family had the Catholic faith to aid them. They were living in a Catholic country and a Catholic culture. The blacks had Protestantism with no sacraments and all of society against them (more so than the Irish were).

I got a bachelors in Sociology and I did learn that there was a correlation between poverty and crime. I'm not saying that every poor person is going to be a criminal - but poverty does breed crime. The first gangs and mafia emerged in  America in poor Irish and poor Italian immigrants neighborhoods.
