I've found sports fans to be every bit as infantile and delusional as the members of other, less socially acceptable fanboy immersion manias.
I like sports. Does that make me defective?
I'm talking about sports fans. "Fan" is a contraction of "fanatic." Simply "liking sports" does not make one a fanatic.
But I would counsel you against holding your attachment to sports - or to any worldly thing - so dearly that you will find yourself on the defensive when someone speaks against it.
I have my own attachments to worldly things. Old habits die hard. I find myself watching the odd episode of
Star Trek The Next Generation every now and then. But I'm aware of the fact that it is an attachment that I'd be better off without, and I'll voice no protest against criticisms of Star Trek fans when I know darn well those criticisms are well-founded.
I see you just started a thread about a Satanic performance at the Super Bowl halftime show. Perhaps you should reflect on
why the Super Bowl was chosen as the venue for that Satanic display. You might then come to see that, like my attachment to
Star Trek The Next Generation, your attachment to spectator sports is something you'd be better off without, and that it's certainly not worth "defending" in the face of very justifiable criticism.
