  • "I am a patriot, too. And the best patriot converts his fellow man, so he can go to the heavenly country and be a citizen with the saints there."
--Rev. Fr. Kenneth L. Novak, F.S.S.P.X

"Those who will defend authority against rebellion must not themselves rebel."
    --Prof. J.R.R. Tolkien (1892-1973)

"Nine out of ten of what we call new ideas are simply old mistakes.  The Catholic Church has for one of her chief duties that of preventing people from making those old mistakes; from making them over and over again forever, as people always do if they are left to themselves."
    --G.K. Chesterton (1874-1936)

"As it is, the Catholic Church is everywhere becoming the sole champion of certain parts of traditional morality which numbers of people who have never associated the idea with Catholicism desire to preserve.  One has only to mention the private property of the small man, the authority of the family and the permanence of marriage to see the truth of this."
    --Hilaire Belloc (1870-1953)

"Indeed, the true friends of the people are neither revolutionaries nor innovators, but men of tradition."
    --Pope St. Pius X (1835-1914)

"Catholicism will convert all pagan nations, and all Protestant nations, even England with her proud Parliament.  Everybody should know that we have for our mission to convert the world--including the inhabitants of the United States--the people of the cities, and the people of the country, the Officers of the Navy and the Marines, the commander of the Army, the legislatures, the Senate, the Cabinet, the President and all."
--H.E. Abp. John Joseph Hughes (1797-1864)

"I can never join with my voice in the toast which I see in the papers attributed to one of our gallant naval heroes [cf., Stephen Decatur: "Our Country!  In her intercourse with foreign nations may she always be in the right, but our country, right or wrong"].  I cannot ask of heaven success, even for my country, in a cause where she should be in the wrong.  Fiat justitia, pereat coelum ["Let justice be done though heaven should fall"].  My toast would be, may our country always be successful, but whether successful or otherwise, always right."
    --President John Quincy Adams (1767-1848)

"In fact, after having abolished the monarchy, the best of all governments, it [the (French) National Convention] had transferred all the public power to the people--the people which, guided neither by reason nor by counsels, forms just ideas on no point whatsoever; assesses few things in accordance with the truth and evaluates a great many according to mere opinion, which is ever fickle, and ever easy to deceive and to lead into every excess, ungrateful, arrogant, and cruel."
    --Pope Pius VI (1717-1799)

  • Thanks for sharing these quotes.  Did you find them somewhere or compile them yourself?
"In this difficult time, to be victorious, we must be steadfast using all of our strength and capabilities like brave soldiers fully armed in the battlefield ... Whatever happens, behave in such a way that God will be glorified."

    -Saint Andrew Kim

  • GilbertGea sent those quotes to the people on his list.

I don't know if he's on here much anymore, but I certainly considered these quotes important enough to share with the Catholics here.

It's a shame he doesn't post stuff like that on here.
