Talking about bad books. HAS anyone ever really looked at the collected works of Flannery O'CONNOR ? Talk about LUSTFUL and putting immoral thoughts in young childrens heads. I can't for the life of me understand why the Pius X Society has such an obsession with Flannery O'Conner. they have forced this literature on our children at st. marys academy. I read some of Flannery's stories ,some of the same stories that the children at st. mary's academy have been forced to read as a captive audience in classrooms at the academy. These stories are a crude way of giving our children sex education. I was wondering if the state has put pressure on the Society to inculcate some kind of sex ed program because of tax laws etc.. Every parent should take a few minutes and read the garbage coming out of the academy in Flannery's books. Oh, but I heard in the recent past some parents brought this up at a meeting and were pooh poohed by one of the Child's as having the same mindset as the Pius X Resistance. You've got to love a good modernist, they preach tolerance but you get in their space and the become ruthless. So the new god at the academy is literature and don't you forget it you peons out their. We elite know whats best for your kids and if you don't like it take them out of this school. And that is what the parents were told. Whatever happened to spiritual feeding and giving our children nuorishment for the soul ?

I would agree that these are books for an adult audience. I could hardly expect anyone under 30 to even understand her stories. And that's stretching it. It would have to be a pretty bright 30 year old who actually has interesting life experience.

Either way, she was one of the greatest writers of the 20th Century.

And I don't find them particularly to be filled with lust either. Perhaps you can provide an actual example.

I don't care for her writing myself but don't remember anything particularly "lustful" in the few pieces I read. What are you referring to?

I know people claim she was a great writer but I think she was just full of herself, I don't even think she was a very good wordsmith.

If someone feels she must be read her works would certainly be more appropriate to college age, not high school, because of her convoluted style.

I'm talking 3rd grade on up is the answer to what age group. A very wise man told me once, you don't have to step in manure to know what it is. While we are at it another reader the 3rd graders have been read to from their teacher is out of Grimm's Fairy Tales. This story is about a father who kills his son boils him up and eats him. The teacher had the audacity to say to the children ,don't go home and have bad dreams tonight. What in the world are these supposed educators thinking. I ask again ,what is wrong with building up the spiritual side of these kids with catholic literature about the saints etc. Thats how they will be able to fight temptations out in the world. What the academy is doing is promoting near occasions of sin by pushing Flannery and this grimms fairy tale garbage. It truly is GRIM. When I was coming up in catholic grade school and high school we weren't bombarded with the kind of garbage the kids at st. marys are getting. More and more the academy is going the way of secularism in their literature breaking down these young souls using incrementalism. Its sad to see how the Society has slowly acquieced these last 14 or more years not only in their school but in the leadership.
