I have been informed by a reliable source that the ordinary bishop of Tulsa, Oklahoma, is requesting of all Catholics in the world to join his diocese in prayer and fasting for the intention of the CANCELLATION of a public and notorious SATANIC BLACK MASS which has been scheduled for September 21st at the CIVIC CENTER in Oklahoma City.

Bishop Slattery (a good Irish name!) is making this open request for prayers and penance, and any time that a bishop does such a thing it deserves wide distribution, for this is what will save us from the wrath of God, provided that such requests are made and that we voluntarily comply with them.

Bishop Slattery (may God bless him) asks that from August 6th (today) through August 14th (the vigil of the Assumption), that we would ABSTAIN from all flesh meat in a spirit of penance, that we pray our daily Rosary with this added intention, and that BEFORE EACH DECADE, we would please add the words:

"MAY CHRIST OUR LORD DELIVER US FROM EVIL

AND DEFEND US AGAINST THIS PRESENT DANGER"

At the end of our Rosary, he is asking that we be sure to pray the St. Michael prayer, which is something that most of us already do anyway:

Saint Michael, Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust down into hell satan and all the other wicked spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

On August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption body and soul of Our Blessed Mother into heaven, this upstanding bishop has announced that he will publicly recite the LONG VERSION of the Leonine Prayer to St. Michael. (Perhaps another member knows where that is found and can post it here?)

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but this might be the first time since before Vatican II that this Long Form Prayer of Pope Leo XIII (of happy memory) has been publicly made by a bishop anywhere in the world. It seems to me that he deserves our meet appreciation for this gesture, and for his announcing it in advance.

Someone said that an SSPX chapel somewhere has also announced this.

LaramieHirsch had started a thread two days earlier, about this request from Bishop Slattery, here, which I had not seen yet when I opened this thread.

So there are three differences in the version I had heard: Laramie's thread including a copy of the letter from +Slattery, makes no mention of the "May Christ Our Lord..." prayer, and there is no specific mention of the "Long Form Leonine prayer," as I had heard. He simply says "a special prayer," as follows: "On Assumption Day, August 15th, we will ask Our Lady on her Feast, to intercede for us and protect us. On that day I in the Cathedral, and every priest in his own parish, will pray a special prayer written by Pope Leo XIII for the defense of the Church against the attack of the Enemy and his apostate angels." And finally, +Slattery is merely asking for a "decade" but I had heard he was asking for a Rosary.

It seems my source had probably been misinformed by another source. When different versions of such a request circulate, it only adds to confusion, as we have seen taking place in the SSPX when at least 5 different versions of the Rosary intentions were "officially" disseminated in various regions of the world. In that case, the difference might at least be attributable to the fact that there were 5 languages and therefore 4 of them were translations of the French original.

But +Slattery is only dealing in English, so there is no language excuse.

Let me ask you readers a question:

Do you find it noteworthy that none (as in zero) of our sedevacantist members at CI have posted any comment regarding this problem of the Black Mass in OK?

Is it at all possible that they think that a satanic black mass on taxpayer property in public is of no concern for sedevacantists? Or, are they merely unwilling to contribute any prayers for the cancellation of such a blasphemy because then they would be "praying with heretics" that is, other Catholics who are not sedevacantists?

I'm going to do Laramie a favor and abstain from any mention of these controversies on his thread, and confine them to this thread and I would ask the same of other members. I think he would appreciate that.

Upon further examination, it appears that my source used the word "fast" erroneously. There is no mention of "fasting" from Bishop Slattery, only abstinence from meat and meat products until August 14th.

Perhaps he thought that asking Catholics to "fast" would make him seem too antiquated or whatever.

In the old days, like at Nineveh, the king sat in sackcloth and ashes to appease the wrath of God. Was he overdoing it? Or, was that then and this is now?

Our Eastern Rite and Orthodox brethren are observing the Dormition fast through the Feast of the Assumption in any case.
