When you saw the young man’s face looking at the elder, and just the smirk, and then having a whole group around him of his fellow classmates, all boys, doing the various things they were doing — chanting, doing tomahawk things, racist behaviors — this is what privilege looks like. This is what he has learned not only from his schooling but also from other sources of education, which include family and the larger national context.

What he’s learned is this contempt toward others, this kind of privileged white male gaze that communicates, “I’m better than you, I don’t even have enough respect for you to even say anything to communicate, but I will communicate everything I need to through my body language.” That overconfidence, and that sense of entitlement, all of it was being performed in that moment.
As I was reading the articles, the ways in which people were trying to make sense of that initially, none of the conversation really focused on privilege and that these were a group of privileged boys from a privileged institution.

Bill O'Reilly analyzes the attack on the Covington Catholic students and the media's treatment of the young boys. CNN's Religion Commentator, Father Beck recently said the kids should not have been allowed to wear 'Make America Great Again' hats and pleads for Christians to reject President Trump.

I am no fan of Donald Trump, but I think that this fight over hats that were being sold by street venders is ridiculous.

It may seem ridiculous if one only considers the stupidity of it, but innocent boys are facing real consequences.  But they are white so they can't be victims; they have "privilege". 

The only way to win is not to play.

What would happen if those on the right just ignored the fake media, the tweets, the comments sections?  They made it a point of pride to not respond.

Controversy sells.  So if you want to reduce the effectiveness of a marketing message simply ignore it.

2000 leftists agreeing with each other makes for pretty boring reading.

Might be worth a try.  The mainstream media is dependent on eyeballs, sooner or later the CFO has to deliver the quarterly forecast to the CEO and along with the Chairman he reports it in the quarterly conference call.  Then heads roll and change happens.

Then troll them.  I liked the NPC thing.  I thought that was very effective.  Basically mocking them relentlessly.

I think it does go away to some degree.  People have very short attention spans and are soon distracted if one of the Kardashians takes off an article of clothing.
