What do you think about this line of thought?

- Children are naturally meditative.
- They don't "need" a tool like the Rosary as much as adults do. (Although they should develop the habit anyhow.)
- Encouraging them to meditate on an aspect of the Faith is as simple as introducing it to them and finding a way to capture their interest.
- Without a ton of other distractions (TV, games, etc) in their life, this shouldn't be too difficult.

I think that children can be naturally imaginative.  Depends on the child though.  Those who are artistically inclined have an easier time of it than the "left-brain" types.  Meditation involves a little more discipline though, and involves recursive focus of the imagination on specific mysteries.  Their one stumbling block tends to be that they do not have enough data regarding the topics in question to mediate seriously on them.  So, for instance, I can ask them to mediate on God being Our Father.

After my children received their First Communion I walked each one of them through making the Five First Saturday, and by far the most difficult part was the meditation.  I had to walk them through it and guide their meditation with specific and concrete points to think about.

Children can lose focus and have limited attention span to be able to sustain disciplined meditation for fifteen minutes.
