I have the financial opportunity to buy some books to add to our library.

What books do you all recommend, think that all Catholics should own/have read, or have handy?

What are indispensable books to grow in the Faith?

(Besides the Bible! I certainly have a Bible)

The Raccolta 1857 (this was the first one in English/Latin before the changes startin around 1910. Each devotion shows it's great importance by the hefty indulgences and also shows many going back hundreds of years. This book is hard to find but it is on line. I've checked and it is an accurate copy of the original, albeit with a few typos) Scroll down to the very bottom and click Index.

For Children the lives of the saints.

You realize the list is endless, right?!?

If it's a matter of "financial opportunities" I would suggest the 15 volume set of The Liturgical Year by Dom Gueranger.

The Church's Year by Rev. Fr. Leonard Goffine

Divine Intimacy by Fr. Gabriel of St. Mary Magdalen

A set of Papal Encyclicals

Butler's Lives of the Saints

Of course Against the Heresies and others by ABL

The Catechism Explained Spirago-Clarke

Fiction for mid-range kids and up, Three Religious Rebels and Outlaws of Ravenhurst. There are many, many good books but those two have a special way of sparking heroic imagination.

There are so many others of every saint and subject matter.

Don't forget to include a healthy amount of Classic Literature. There are years worth of audio Literature Conferences done at Winona to accompany the books.

Along those lines they also have audio sets of sermons by individual priests. I would recommend Frs. Doran and Gaudray especially. You can get Bishop Williamson's whole set on his website too.

These library priorities are based on my years spent on RCIA and SCC teams;
with the understanding you have a Bible (although I suggest a good study Bible like the NAB or Navarre).
1- Catholic Catechism
2- Lives of Saints (Roman list or US)
3-Delaney's Lives of Saints everyday
4-Daily devotions Pope St John Paul II Devotions
5-Divine Office the Brevary of Catholic Prayers should suffice until you're motivated to buy the Liturgy of the Hours
6-A Book of Catholic Prayers--my favorite is St Joseph c 1958
7-Missals, both Sunday and weekday--these will encourage you to go to Mass to here how the priest explains the readings
8-History of Church--McSorley's is the best I've found
9-A few biographies of Saints, preferrably patrons for yourself and family, and others with whom you feel special communion.
10-Life of Jesus Christ--Pope Benedict's was difficult for me, but fascinating. You have many options.

Some suggestions for children:

Fr. Lovasik picture books - I think they're officially called St. Joseph Picture Books -- only about $2 each and cover a variety of subjects / saints
