  • The following Epistle (and preceding commentary) is from The Saint Andrew Daily Missal. It is from the Mass for today - The Fourth Sunday of Advent.

The Sovereign Judge alone know the inmost hearts of men, and He it is who will return to judge us at the last Day. We must not pass unfavourable judgements upon our neighbours, if we wish Almighty God’s judgement of ourselves not to be adverse. The exhortation not to judge Christ’s ministers is probably the reason for the choice of this passage for the Advent Embertide ordinations.

    Epistle:  1 Corinthians 4. 1-5

Let a man so account of us as of the ministers of Christ, and the dispensers of the mysteries of God. Here now it is required among the dispensers, that a man be found faithful. But to me it is a very small thing to be judged by you, or by man's day; but neither do I judge my own self. For I am not conscious to myself of anything, yet am I not hereby justified; but he that judgeth me, is the Lord. Therefore judge not before the time; until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall every man have praise from God.

  • That's funny, I came home from Holy Mass intending to post that Epistle in the thread about Voris, to illustrate the principles I was arguing for.  :)

I often wonder when I read trad Catholic forum posts whether they actually read the Epistles and Gospels.
