  • Who prays for martyrdom??

I have prayed countless times for a young death as a martyr, but now I do not pray do die as a martyr as of recently, but I still pray for a young death.
I pray that I will die young after I have finished my books ( I live to write stuff, which is unlike the way I post on cathinfo BTW!)

I have a gut feeling that I will not live to grow old but will die in my mid 30's
    I am 28.
I don't know what will happen but my instinct tells me someone will kill me or I will die of some disease.

  •  :pray:I've told God I'm willing, but I've not specifically asked...yet!
St. Francis Xavier threw a Crucifix into the sea, at once calming the waves.  Upon reaching the shore, the Crucifix was returned to him by a crab with a curious cross pattern on its shell.

  • It's better to pray for final perseverance than for martyrdom.  We shouldn't presume that we would persevere in the face of death.  Better to pray to die in the way most conducive to saving your soul.
"Be kind; do not seek the malicious satisfaction of having discovered an additional enemy to the Church... And, above all, be scrupulously truthful. To all, friends and foes alike, give that serious attention which does not misrepresent any opinion, does not distort any statement, does not mutilate any quotation. We need not fear to serve the cause of Christ less efficiently by putting on His spirit". (Vermeersch, 1913).

  • Saint Thomas More is my patron (i.e., The King's Good Servant).  I follow his example, which is to persevere in the faith but not seek death in case my own will is not strong enough.  The good Saint use every legal means to escape death but submitted to it when he was condemned by means of perjury.  I do pray that I will know when death is coming and not die in my sleep or such.  I do not wish to die a martyr's death.  I am weak in that regard.

  • I think about martyrdom fairly often.  When I encounter small trials, I think about the possibility that God is using them to prepare me to face great ones.  And I pray that He would give me the grace to accept martyrdom if that were His will.  But I find it hard to imagine myself having the strength to do it.  I know how weak I am.

Sometimes I say the Act of Resignation Prayer:
    Quote
O Lord, my God, from this day I accept from Your hand willingly and with submission, the kind of death that it may please You to send me, with all its sorrows, pains, and anguish. Into Your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit.
or pray this idea in my own words.

  • Nope. I prayed for the stigmata several years ago when I was feeling like superwoman, and boy did I get a spiritual stigmata that was certainly a witness for many. But I nearly gave up the Faith because some things are just too hard and I just wasn't that strong.

I did get a heaping helping and much-needed acquaintance with humility, though. For that I am thankful. I'll never pray for anything great and saintly again. I was shown just how weak I am, and I'm good with that. Deo Gratias!

  • I ask God that I may be faithful in the time of trial.
