    ESPANOL
    Managua/ACAN-EFE

The Nicaraguan poet Ernesto Cardenal said today that "it seems a science fiction novelist had written a novel in which extravagant, by a derangement of the time machine, St. Francis of Assisi in the XXI century is elected pope," referring first Pope Francisco.

The poet and priest, versatile artist and promoter of liberation theology, said in a written statement sent to Efe: "The new Fioretti who tell us every day, very fun, St. Francis of Assisi elected Pope, we give the impression that the Vatican has gone mad ".

"So if San Francisco would have been elected Pope, or Jesus came to the Vatican," noted Cardinal, who became Minister of Culture in the Sandinista government that ruled the country between 1979 and 1987.

While Minister of Culture received a public reprimand of the late Pope John Paul II, in March 1983, when he visited Nicaragua, for mixing religion with the Sandinista revolution, and its image kneeling before the Pope, who scolded him, toured the world.

Cardinal, 88, Queen Sofia Prize for Latin American Poetry 2012 and suspended "a divinis" by the Vatican, has since been critical of the Holy See, which has been accused of "sleeping with the CIA."

  • The fact that so many people actually compare Bergoglio with St. Francis shows to how great a degree the legacy of the Seraphic Father has been made the victim of historical falsification. Such falsifiers have been spending decades to make people associate his person with communist doctrine.

St. Francis did not want to rob the Church of her possessions, which is why he founded a religious order where the evangelical counsel of poverty could be practiced more perfectly, without undermining the organisation of the Church.

When he was asked why he used a golden chalice for Mass, and whether it was not against evangelical poverty to do so, St. Francis answered that for God nothing is good enough.

All those things you hear about him supposedly having gone to 'dialogue' eucuмenistically with that mahometan sultan, that he was reactionary against the Church etc. are all blatant lies. Was St. Francis a real reformer? Yes, but not in the way that those modern day historical revisionists claim he was.

He is probably one of the Saints against whom the most injustice is done by the subversives.

  • Maybe I should have explained why I made this post. Ernesto Cardenal is a historical figure; all for the wrong reasons. The reason I made the post is because he came bobbing up after so long away from public view.

  • St. Francis Assisi has been allowed to morph into some kind of benevolent New Age forest fairy. Those who hold this image of him can receive a rude awakening by a more in depth study of his life and words.
