  • I imagine that the angels themselves, if they came down as schoolmasters, would find it hard to control their anger. Only with the help of the Blessed Virgin do I keep from murdering some of them.

  • The Christian Brothers were notoriously vicious in their treatment of young boys. I have yet to meet a older man who was educated by Christan Brothers who speaks highly of them.

Perforated eardrums, broken legs, beatings for giving an incorrect answer to a difficult question- these are just some of the injustices suffered by men (then young boys) of my personal aquaintence. My Uncle was beaten so hard with a leather belt that the marks were still visible when he wore swimshorts in August, the school having finished early July. There is no excuse whatsoever for beating a child so hard.

  • To clarify: I'm sure St. Benildus and his companion Brothers were not so savage. I'm speaking of the Christian Brothers as they were during the 40's and 50's in England and Ireland.
