Regarding the Society of St Vincent de Paul, I commend them but had a polite debate regarding MABS. In Ireland, MABS help people with budgeting finance. They inadvertently are helping the banks. Many St Vincent de Paul meant well by sending people to MABS.

stgobnait is perhaps familiar with Mabs? (The Money Advice and Budgeting Service)

I wouldn't recommend MABS or New Beginning. Just a personal opinion. Both help the banks.

Yeah, it really depends on the conferance and what is available locally.  I've met a number of good people through St Vincent's.

  • STVDP really depends who you talk to, it's volunteer based. I've made shawls for the same  parish but one locally wouldn't help me recently not being a member. Years ago I was helped by a STVDP and never stepped foot in their church building.
I don't know if they would help for a car that is under loan or a cell phone contract though.

  • I will say a few prayers, but, truth be told, there are such things as  JUST debts and we are required to pay them. We are prohibited from stealing.

John Grace, do you believe that all money contracts are bad, and all consumers are good regardless of the circuмstances? Generally it would make sense to dispute the terms of a contract BEFORE it was entered into, not after it was causing one a problem threatening one's worldly trinkets.

You are right, depends on the group. In my conference, yes, we would consider helping pay bills on a phone or car.

  • I was hoping I would not have to do this, but I am forced to sell off my collection of vintage and antique Rosaries, Missals and other sacramentals.

I will give preferential pricing to CI members.

PM me if you're interested. I also have a statue of the Sacred Heart that is at least 50 years old. It is in good condition for its age, having been kept in a home. I would like to see that item added to a Resistance chapel or home altar.

I simply cannot afford to keep these items, as they have become more of a luxury or pleasure than they are a necessity.

If you're looking for a particular vintage item, let me know; if I don't have it, I might be able to source one for you.
This evil of heresy spreads itself. The doctrines of godliness are overturned; the rules of the Church are in confusion; the ambition of the unprincipled seizes upon places of authority; and the chief seat [the Papacy] is now openly proposed as a rewar

Yes, the Infant Jesus of Prague is VERY generous... And FAITHFUL.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There is another novena to Him that we use (we own our own business and my DH prays this daily):

"O dearest Jesus, tenderly loving us, Your greatest joy is to dwell among us and to bestow Your blessing upon us!  Though I am not worthy that You should behold me with love, I feel myself drawn to You, O dear Infant Jesus, because You gladly pardon me and exercise Your almighty power over me.

"So many who have turned with confidence to You have received graces and had their petitions granted.  Behold me, in spirit I kneel before Your miraculous image on Your altar in Prague, and lay open my heart to You, with its prayers, petitions and hopes.  Especially the affair of .....

    [State your petitions here.]

"I enclose in Your loving Heart.  Govern me and do with me and mine according to Your holy Will, for I know that in Your Divine wisdom and love You will ordain everything for the best.  Almighty gracious Infant Jesus, do not withdraw Your hand from us, but protect and bless us forever.

"I pray You, sweetest Infant, in the name of Your Blessed Mother Mary who cared for You with such tenderness, and by the great reverence with which St. Joseph carried You in his arms, comfort me and make me happy, that I may bless and thank You forever from all my heart.  Amen."

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The TAN booklet, from which we obtained the above novena, also mentions the origin of this devotion (a GREAT story, which I will reserve for a future post).

    It also mentions the promise:

"As long as you venerate this image [of The Infant Jesus of Prague] YOU WILL NOT BE IN WANT."

    He has never failed us.

    God bless.
