  • Yes.  I'm fairly certain that Wednesday and Saturday are only days of Fasting  and not Fasting and Abstinence.
For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect. (Matthew 24:24)

  • Yes, 2Vermont is right, meat once a day on Wednesday and Saturday, no meat on Friday.

  • Thank you.   You are right on the 19th there several part invitations.
On the 19th, one friend is having Domincan Rosary followed by Turkey dinner along with the trimmings.

One of my husbands friends had a Christmas game luncheon last Friday and didn't invite us.
Same guy who chomped on a hotdog on a Friday during Lent.
While I had packed a tuna fish sandwich from my husband.   Yes, the Catholics made fun of my husband in front of Protestants.
May God bless you and keep you

  • Yes. I always thought the Advent Ember days were right after Gaudete Sunday.

Yes, and their first day is Wednesday (December 16).

As a formal rule, the winter ember days are based on the day of the week of the feast of St. Lucy (V.M.) of Syracuse
    • : December 13.  The ember days are the first set of Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday that occur in a single week after her feast.

But shiver me  timbers  semiconductors!   The winter ember days are indeed de facto the Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday immediately after Gaudete Sunday.  Not only in the years for which that coïncidence was noticed & remembered by the quoted CathInfo member, but always!

Yes, I freely concede that "always" is a really lonnng time, but I have a PERL program: It calculates dates from the traditional Roman Catholic liturgical calendar, and displays them in a tabular form.  I initially began writing it several years ago, but until this year, I'd not bothered to calculate the basis dates for the 2 seasons of ember days, i.e.: winter and autumn, that are among the fixed feasts, i.e.: St. Lucy and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross (September 14)
    • .  So I rummaged thro' various published hard-copy calendars (how quaint!) for past years, worked out the possible cases, and expanded the calculations & data displayed by my program.  After verifying that it displayed all of my initial cases as expected,  I eyeball-checked all the years so far back that I reached the year of death of Pope Pius XII.  In all those years, it corroborated the claim made by the quoted CathInfo member above.

Note @: Siracusa to Italians: Carthaginian-founded seaport city in Sicily.

Note +: The latter feast not to be confused with the "Invention of the Holy Cross" (May 3), where "invention" is a confusingly retained Latinism that means "discovery" or "finding", i.e.: by St. Helena.  It's a feast day reportedly absent in (operationally deleted from) the 1962 Missale Romanum.
