Either report rule-breaking post, or ignore it

  • If a member (or post) is breaking actual CathInfo rules, including Catholic rules of decency/morality, then use the "Report to Moderator" link found at the bottom of every post.

But for members or posts who fall short of that -- PLEASE just ignore it, and mind your own business! Thank you.

Every single post should be at one of those two extremes -- you report it to the Moderator as being an actual violation, or you enjoy (or at least ignore) the post. 100% of posts should fit into one of those TWO categories.

    My point, in short is:

B*tching on the forum about members and/or posts is a middle-ground (between REPORTING TO MODERATOR and IGNORING IT) that shouldn't exist.

I don't need a hundred self-appointed "helpers" policing my forum. If you want to help me police, please use the aforementioned link that the software provides, and then let me do my job. Thank you.

  • Does this apply when one of us exposes Croix? :laugh1:
For what doth it profit a man, if he gain the whole world, and suffer the loss of his own soul? Or what exchange shall a man give for his soul?

That definitely falls into "someone needs to inform the moderator of a problem"

Incidentally, said "b*tching", or grumbling on the forum in general, doesn't always come to my attention. In fact, it can quite easily get buried by the sheer volume of posts made daily on CathInfo. That is yet another reason to "Report it or Ignore it".

You have to wonder why people would even try to "throw their weight around" or boss others around on this forum, when it's well-known there's only ONE moderator, ME (unless you count my wife). That means there's just one person with even an OUNCE of actual enforcement power. Yes, that means what you think it does: you can safely ignore EVERYONE ELSE, and I actively encourage that course of action.

Nothing really -- it was actually a very minor thing, but it caused me to decide to make an announcement. Especially since it brought to mind that, over the months and years, I HAVE had problems from time-to-time with people starting threads about other members, grumbling publicly about what is posted, who posts here, etc.

It occurred to me that proper behavior could be summed up quite easily with two options: report it (if there's an evident problem with the member or post) or enjoy/ignore it (="do nothing").

But all too often, some individuals go for a middle-ground option -- they don't think it's worthy to bug me about, but they DO think it's worth grumbling to CathInfo/the Internet at large about. Or, they pester other members, pretending to be some kind of civilian police force. Why?

  • Sometimes one reads "this/he/she should be reported."
I wonder why they make such a post and don't just do it. This happened with Demon buster most recently.
