Lately I've been in discussion with friends and family over the (nefarious) nature of the Enlightenment. They seem to think that Enlightenment values are the purest expression of Western Civilisation, and are completely supportive of good things like the Church, family, tradition etc... The only anti-Enlightenment figure I'm acquainted with is Burke. Does anybody know of any good (online) sources that I could use to educate myself on the Counter Enlightenment and the errors of the Enlightenment?

Read Memoirs on the History of Jacobinisme by Abbe Barruel. Probably Joseph de Maistre would be useful as well.

I've read a summary of Memoirs on the History of Jacobinisme, and it seems to be an interesting text; particularly in regards to how the proper circuмstances for the Satanic Revolution were intentionally brought about by secret societies. I'm not sure how much I buy into the belief that the Revolution was engineered from the dawn of the Enlightenment onward. I certainly believe that the philosophes, and the Revolution, were inspired by Lucifer. However I feel that the whole Enlightenment would be more likely to be an instance of demonic teleology (if that makes any sense); I wonder how many of the philosophes were aware of where their doctrines were going to lead? But as they say "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

Joseph de Maistre is the quintessential counter-Enlightenment man.

Some of his works are online - do a quick search. If you read French that is even better.

Clicking on the first link I provided will reveal that it is indeed an online (or rather, a pdf) version of the full book. It's not a long book, but it'll possibly change your outlook forever. He analyzes the "Enlightenment" as merely one wave of a revolution, the Revolution of the last 500 years. This one Revolution consists of three waves: 1) the pseudo-Reformation, 2) the pseudo-Enlightenment, and 3) communism. In the 1993 update he goes into today's portents of a fourth wave, tribalism.

Absolutely. He is certainly one of most influential figures in my own development.
